Thanks, James. I saved that link. There's a young man that we know that's deployed overseas right now. I'm working on getting his address so we can send him things. Two years ago that young man hated the army, and tried to discourage Jake from joining. We just heard that he's been promoted to sergeant and has reenlisted, so his feelings must have changed.

If you'd like some help with that, let me know. I may be able to help.

We'd planned to go to Boston today, but I had an uneasy feeling about going. While we were at the bus stop, I finally convinced John to stay in town. We rolled up to the park, hoping to find ducks in the little pond. Instead, we found geese! How cool is that? We got photos, so I'm eager to get those loaded on to the computer! We had lunch at McDonald's, and then came home. I wanted to sit outside the building a bit, but John went inside for a few moments. When he came back, he told me he had turned his chair's power off, and had difficulty turning it back on. We're wondering if my woman's intuition was kicking in.

Deb and I ventured to the park via a side road that we seldom use, then returned via a bike path that follows an old railroad track bed. A stream flows under that path at one point and today we saw it had a tiny waterfall. Cool. I like waterfalls and streams and such. In the last Amazon order that we got there were a couple of coupons for free sandwiches at McDonalds. But...I neglected to put them in my wallet so we weren't able to use them today. *sigh* Maybe next time. DebbieLynne's woman's intuition was in operation today. If we'd ventured into Boston and my chair had stopped and failed to start again...ooops. Not a fun prospect. I'll be glad when the switch on the joystick gets replaced. Well, time to call the attendent prospects who left messages on our answering machine while we were out. There were three calls on the machine, and we've had others before we went out and after we got back. I do like chatting with people (did you gather that from my posts?) but these calls are not my favorite conversations. Thank you for your prayers that we find a good weekend attendent.

I'm glad you've gotten lots of calls. We'll just keep hoping there's a real gem among them. I'm also glad you didn't get stuck in Boston. Way to go Deb!

I'm glad we got home early so I could make a Mother's Day card for Houdini to give her mom...and so I could post here. We're starting interviews tomorrow, so my time will be more limited.

Hi Marsha. I agree about being cautious. Being stuck in Boston would be really scarey.

I've heard that Boston has taxi cabs that can take wheelchairs but it would be a mite expensive to take one from downtown to our town in the suburbs. If we got stuck in Boston I might try calling the paratransit service but they really prefer you to make reservations a day in advance. I've been really blessed in that my chair has only broken down at home or (1 time) at church. If you're going to break down, those are two of the better places to do so.

Hi all! Just thought I'd stick my head in and catch up on the "Adventures of John and DebbieLyn" (I know I prolly didn't spell that right, forgive me Debs!) John, your situation sounds very much like Beth and mine here in Anderson (NE of Indianapolis IN). I am thankful that we're not both in chairs because Anderson is a small enough community that while they do have SOME handicapped transit, they are fairly inflexable about last minute requests. On "Good places to have your chair breakdown" ... I might add college campuses to that list. Once when Beth was at Ball State University (prior to our meeting there), she had smashed her finger in a doorway when she'd misjudged a distance in her power chair. It pretty much took the nail off her pinky on the hand she normally used for the controller . Technically, the chair didn't break down, but needless to say, she wasn't in much of a mood to concentrate on driving. Well, as if God knew the need even before she did, a young lady who happened to be working as an attendant for another student just happened to step up at that moment, took one look at Beth's finger and said, "Don't worry! I'll take you STRAIGHT to the <university health center>!" Without asking, she reached down, pulled the levers that loosened Beth's drive belts and off they went! As they walked, they made introductions and after dropping Beth off, the girl asked if she'd need her to come back and get her back to her room. Beth thanked her but said once the doctor bandaged her finger, she was sure she'd be ok. The lady did check in on Beth later. They became good friends. Sadly, we've not been able to keep track of her since then.

We've got interviews scheduled through Tuesday, and the ad will run till Monday. So I'm not too nervous yet. But I really could have used a day out of my wheelchair. The tilt back feature, which allows me to redistribute my weight, hasn't worked since Easter, and my bottom is getting sore. If we hadn't been expecting people for interviews, I would have asked Houdini to put me back in bed after she dressed me. But I can do more when I'm up, so I guess it's just as well. Sue, I think all of us expect the world when we're young. If I had more time, I'd tell some stories about how I was 30 years ago! I look back at my expectations, and have to laugh!

That's no good, Sue. To bad he didn't enlist before starting the semester, so that money wouldn't have been spent unnecessarily.

Sadly, we've not been able to keep track of her since then. It sure is amazing how some things "just happen" almost as if God knew what we'd need even before things happen. Too bad Beth lost track of the lady. That happens a lot when people go off in different directions after leaving a school or job. Maybe one day the Internet will help you locate each other.
