ORIGINAL: TonyRush MTTFan, are you talking about a specific instance? I'm referring to the "SGM screaming tenor" in general. But, if you're looking for an example, listen to "When He Calls I'll Fly Away" on GC's 20th Anniversary Celebration CD. I can think of no defintion of "quality" or "pitch" that refers to what Jay is doing on those endings. The encore ending is even worse. Again, just my opinion! Tony Rush He was on when he sang that note in When he calls I'll Fly Away.. Which one? He hit about a dozen or so while he was trying to find where he wanted to land! LOL Call it a personal preference. I see no point in a tenor singer trying to hit every note in his upper range while putting an ending on a song. In fact, I suspect if you heard a tenor in a local group do that, you'd probably think that someone needs to take him aside and teach him something about harmony and quality. But, because, it's GC, it's cool. Tony Well, secular music has their "cool" things too. Like busting up a guitar at the end of a concert. I'd freak if Glen Allred started doing that!

ORIGINAL: Newbs I heard them sing this song Aug.4. It's definitely a power ballad, I'd say it has more of a feel of "It's Still the Cross", but this song is even better than that. It's guaranteed to bring everyone to their feet at the end. Danny has the lead on the song if I remember right. It didn't hit me how great a song this was going to be until they kicked in the final chorus, after hearing a bone-chilling exerpt of "Battle Hymn of the Republic" added in. If this song doesn't go to #1, it will be the biggest upset since USA beat Russia in hockey in the 1980 Olympics. Everyone KNEW the Russians would beat us. And I think everyone that has heard this song KNOWS (or believes) it should go to #1. Well, I'm looking forward to hearing them do it soon...if my radio station doesn't add it (they're often months behind!), maybe they'll do it at NQC on the live radio feed.

Legacy Five's new cd has a song "Truth is Marching On". Any relation? I have not heard either one.

Come to think of it, that was where I'd heard of the song name. This deserves a separate thread of its own.

I saw Gold City tonight at Mt Carmel Baptist Church in Douglasville, GA. I don't have the vocabulary to describe it, except to say that I have never heard them better. Jonathan Wilburn was his usual awesome self, but Steve Ladd, Danny Riley and Aaron McCune absolutely blew me away. And of course, Josh was Josh on the piano. I'll try to post the pictures in the next day or two (and YES, they were in suits). I would hasten to add that their new album is to be greatly anticipated.....it is going to be awesome......in other words, it will be typical Gold City.

I enjoyed finally getting to meet you, JimC. Can't wait to see your pictures. I thought Daniel was the best I've ever seen or heard him. He sounded like a strong lead singer and Steve Ladd was absolutely amazing. I don't know what his high notes were, but they were really high!! I'm an alto and I can't even think that high. Really great concert!!!

You know, I have noticed that most of the statements that this album will be taking a progressive tack have come from employees of SSE (Southern Spin entertainment, I think), the company that does publicity for Gold City. After all these reports that the songs from the new project aren't all that out of the normal for Gold City's style, I'm beginning to wonder something. Occasionally one of the members of SSE will make a controversial statement; on one website, one made a controversial statement about Come Thirsty that must have sparked thirty rebuttals. I just got to thinking. SSE's job is to create publicity for the group and the album. I wonder if they have made these controversial statements about Gold City, perhaps exaggerating how "progressive" the album would be, to stir up some controversy and get you to go out there and buy a copy to see for yourself. That's a marketing strategy that some people do. From everything I have heard from people who've heard them do the songs live, the songs aren't as progressive as Southern Spin has made them out to be. So what I'm wondering now is if the exaggeration was intentional, and meant to stir up controversy under the reasoning that any publicity is good publicity.

I thought to be the best quartet ever you had to actually sound good. Which in my opinion, takes The Kingsmen out of the race. But I think Gold City is definitely the best group ever. They have an awesome sound. I have heard the whole project and let me tell you, it is going to be the best ever. I don't think you will be disappointed.

The post concerning the Kingsmen was probably made to intentionally attempt to provoke KingsmenQtFan to react excessively.
