ORIGINAL: Amerigrammy Put it on a meter and see...he eventually slides close to it on the first encore but never quite nails it, although close. The second encore he tries to go even higher and doesn't get as close that time as he did on the first try so he drops back down to the actual part and then Tim slides....THAT part is great! I do appreciate that he tried and am not criticizing him for it. ALL singers miss pitch occasionally and I almost expect it from tenors when they are going for a high ending or from a bass when they are going low....the big endings are very fun for me so please don't take my comment as a personal attack against Jay, I just don't personally care for his "note"..... quote:
ORIGINAL: SGCrazy OFF PITCH SCREAM!!!!!!! That is nothing short of AMAZING!!!!!!! Um....... I'm pretty sure that was about as on pitch as you could get! quote:
ORIGINAL: Amerigrammy Are we jumping the gun just abit? To my knowledge they havent put the new album out yet so we really don't for sure what direction they are headed if any! I am a purist and hope they will stay true to their roots but I am not ready to assume and second guess them without proof. If they come out and lean towards ccm I will be disappointed but until they do they still have my utmost respect and admiration. I still say their recordings from the 80's and 90's are THE standard. I can't get enough of the live version of When He calls, I'll fly away.....well, at least Tim's humongous slide on the end.....I could live without Jay's off pitch scream but I admit it was entertaining....I think though I love the energy in Jonathan's voice when he says "C'mon Jay sing that tenor.....that kills me! Speaking of Jonathan, has anyone ever heard him sing "Somethings Never Change?" He used to sing it when he was with his parents....one of my all time fav ballads... Brian Could Put Him to SHAME!!!

They pitched it, but it was not the Jonathon version. I started the other thread that got redirected to here, about him leaving because after I returned home from the concert last night I went straight to the forums. I was sure there would be info about him leaving already posted, and when there was none, I started the thread and made the first post. I was not starting a rumor, merely reporting what I had witnessed and heard in person. Jonathon was my favorite quartet lead singer, partly because he was the last tie to the group I saw several times and who had become my favorite quartet, namely Jay, Jonathon, Mark, Tim, and Channing, Adam, and Doug comprising the band. The one consistent thing about SG groups is change, but please excuse those of us who lament a little over the past. Gold City sounded great last night, as I said in my review posted in another thread. They are now different, but they are still run by a Riley, and that has been a successful thing for many years. I wish Bruce well in his new role, as well as the rest of the current Gold City lineup. I certainly wish Jonathon and his family well and hope to get to see him and hear his talented voice singing for the Lord again.

My family and I were planning on going to Hickory. The guy who booked Gold City used to live in my hometown. He wanted us to come visit, but that's a long way from FL!

Here's what came out this morning on the e-letter from Danny: Gold City Announces Changes Gold City has announced the resignation of Jonathan Wilburn. Jonathan has served as Gold City's lead singer for the past 12 years. "After much prayer I have decided to resign my position with Gold City," says Wilburn. "I can never truly express the depth of my gratitude to the Riley family-Tim, Barbara, Danny and my precious friend, Doug-for the opportunity of a lifetime. They have not treated me as an employee but like a part of their family. 'You, the fans, have supported me from the beginning and my heart will always be overwhelmed at the reception you gave me from the very first night I took the stage with this wonderful group. I believe God has great things in store for this great bunch of guys. Steve, Aaron, Josh, Kyle and Ed are some of my dearest friends. I can say with an honest and pure heart that I love them as brothers. "Through the years the road has taken a heavy toll on my family and me. Please pray for me as I move on to another chapter of my life. At this present time I have no plans; I just need God to direct me as He did in 1996 when He spoke to my heart about coming to Gadsden to sing with America's No. 1 quartet. "Pray for these guys as they move forward in the ministry. I love them and I love you." "Jonathan is one of my dearest friends," says Daniel Riley, " and it's been my privilege to have traveled with him for the past 12 years. We have been through many ups and downs over the years and have become brothers as members of Gold City. As much as I would love for him to be here forever, I realize that change is inevitable for all of us from time to time. We all wish him the best as he pursues a new direction." Stepping into the lead position is Bruce Taliaferro, a Gadsden, Ala., native. "Bruce is an amazing talent and one of my best friends," states Riley. "He has filled in for both Jonathan and me on several occasions and is a great fit for Gold City. I am looking forward to introducing him to our many friends across the country.

What a tremendous loss for Gold City. Jonathan was one of my favorite leads, not just the singing but also the testimony. His personality filled the stage, he passion filled the song. Gold City has finally gotten "set" and the last time I heard them in January they sounded wonderful, the blend of the voices had finally settled in. It takes time for new voices to find that perfect blend. We will miss him.

We will certainly miss Jonathan and pray for God's direction in his life. God makes no mistakes and if God says 'it's time' then He has a plan both for Jonathan and the group. The very fact that someone who already lives in Gadsden and could start immediately was there for GC, shows the timing is God's. I don't know where God will use Jonathan next but I know that God will continue to direct and use in for His honor and glory.

I have to admit that I'm disapointed and will miss Jonathon alot. Gold City is my second favorite group,{only to the Kingdom Heirs}and Jonathon is my second favorite lead{only to Arthur Rice}. That being said, I will never question Gods will. And if a man of Jonathon's reputation says God is leading him in another direction then I'll support him 100%. I wish Jonathon and Gold City the best and have no doubt Gold City will remain strong. You don't get as strong as Gold City is and not be able to handle a set back or two every now and then. I can't wait to hear them again.

Hey everyone: Gold City has cancelled tonight's concert in Lexington, KY and tomorrow night's concert in Parkersburg, WV due to the big Blizzard we're having! Just some FYI! Be BLESSED!

Be BLESSED! It was BAD. It took me 4 hours to go the first 130 miles from Owensboro,KY to Nashville,TN. It then took me 5 to go from Nashville to Gadsden which usually takes me 3 1/2 hours.
