One of the best experiences of my life was working in a nursing home with the mentally ill, demented and some just plain mean and nasty people. I learned very, very quickly how to not take things personally.

I can understand that, and that I can handle. I do nursing home ministry a lot at my church (though it's hard on me when a favorite dies, which is usually once or twice a month). But to me there's a big difference in someone being mean because they are not in their right mind and someone being mean just because they want to. It's the latter that is draining to me.

You just have to learn to find another way to deflect. I don't know the reality, but when I've done ride alongs, it seemed like 90% of the dweebs were drunk or otherwise inebriated... The others, I just tell myself are mental midgets...

Dude! You're scaring me! Is that fleet you have their for our upcoming war games? I'm going to need to beef up my little army...

As far as noisy neighbors, I'm very sensitive to noise. When I was in college, I was a guinea pig in a study by one of my audiology professors. They did an ABR (automatic brainstem response) test on me in which you lay in a dark room and listen to a series of loud clicks and they measure the response in your brainstem. It's not something you can control - it's literally automatic. The results of most folks looks kind of like some big hills on a graph. Mine looked more like the Himalayas... The grad student's response was "Wow. Are you sensitive to sounds?"

I can tune out a fair amount, but certain sounds literally drive me up a wall. One of those sounds is loud, thumping bass. I think I'd rather listen to someone running their fingernails up and down the chalkboard...

By the way, when I lived in the dorms in college, I don't think I slept...

I am sensitive to sounds too!, but I am not gonna mention here how I got over it though.

Nope. As long as you are correctable to 20/20 you're fine and I am. Now, without glasses, I'm blind as a bat....
Does that mean you squeak in order to avoid running into walls?

No, but sometimes I squeak when I run into walls....

Just got back from a 5.65 mile bikeride. I really do need to get one of those gel seat cushions... Ouch!

But, it's a gorgeous day and I'm ready to relax for the day. I'm not looking forward to tomorrow though. My boss was looking for me after church and it turns out one of our servers is making a horrid noise and he didn't know what to do so I shut it down until our computer guy comes tomorrow which means who knows if we'll have computers tomorrow...

...Again...

Of course it's also payroll week and so this better be something that can be fixed quickly or I'm going to be one very cranky bookkeeper....

Thanks! I've already sent up a few prayers... It's also month end so it's not exactly a "slow" time for me... (not that there is such a thing in the first place)... I just wish they'd recognize that good servers/computers should be a priority and stop trying to make them limp along...

Oh, I forgot to share that on my bike ride today, I saw a whole bunch of red-winged blackbirds. I haven't seen those in years - they are so cool! There were also some ducks, quail, killdeer, etc.

That was better than the icky, big, black spider we had back in the choir area before church... I really dislike spiders.... Unfortunately, we have a lot of them around here...

**phosy shivers and groans and tries to think of happy thoughts**

Horrid noise is usually a fan or power supply so computer guy may have to get parts.. although it could be a hard drive.

Hopefully you get it fixed soon.

We've had so many problems, I just don't want to think about it. We completely crashed and burned twice in the past year. The boss just doesn't understand that there are some things you NEED to spend money on and as computer dependant as we are, the computers is one of those things. Limping along is NOT good enough... Our last crash, we were completely down for more than a week. Not good for a church our size that is very techy.

Oh, and this server is the one we bought a couple months ago and got a "great deal" on. When we heard that, some of us shuddered. Now maybe our boss will understand why....

Absolutely!

By the way, this afternoon, I took some pictures of my garden and thought I'd share. Please note that I have not refreshed the bark from last year, many of these plants were just planted and there is more to do (in other words, yes, I know the bark looks pathetic and there are some things that need doing...) Hehe!

I hope this works, or I may be doing a quick edit...

Anyway, here is a slideshow of some of my plants. Many of the plants aren't blooming yet (like the roses) so they are missing from my slideshow, but stay tuned for later in the year...

Here are pictures of my garden cats. The first one is a memorial to my sweet kitty: Winky pictured here...

And here is a picture of my latest crochet creation - I made it for my newest cousin: Levi.

Thanks everyone! I'm excited for this year. When I bought this house 2 years ago, it was a HUD repo. The "lawn" was completely dead and just weeds. The back lawn was one big tackweed covered by piles of tumbleweeds. I had to pull up all the dead sod and weeds and literally start from scratch. The only thing I didn't have to do was the bushes out front (although they were growing out of control) and the cherry tree that I just had pulled out. It has been a HUGE amount of work, but it's been worth it. I think this year, I might actually have a yard I can be proud of.
