phosadaud -> RE: phosadaud's critter corner (7/5/2008 11:02:57 PM)

I don't know - we do have a lot of Californians though... [:D]

Well, I'm beat but I re-did my craft room and scrubbed it down good (it's where I put all the cat boxes). We'll see how long it stays nice... [8D]

humbleinspirit -> RE: phosadaud's critter corner (7/5/2008 11:06:22 PM)

Yeah, maybe it is the Californians, but then again maybe not. Because when I was in SF last fall, Union Square was very crowded and yet not a single person made body contact with me at all.

Boston's streets are far less crowded usually and people still do not respect your personal space at all.[&:]

phosadaud -> RE: phosadaud's critter corner (7/5/2008 11:12:13 PM)

That drives me nuts... I like my space - when people invade it, I want to start crawling the walls... [&:]

Amen sister! I can't stand my personal space violated. People usually respect it though...

humbleinspirit -> RE: phosadaud's critter corner (7/5/2008 11:16:27 PM)

I usually motion my hand when someone is about to more or less assault me. Usually they get the hint.

phosadaud -> RE: phosadaud's critter corner (7/5/2008 11:16:55 PM)

You know dude, I've been meaning to tell you that deoderant is a good thing... [8D]

I heard that if you talk to yourself then people give you all the space you need. They will in-fact go out of their way to stay away from you! I will have to try that sometime.

It does work, but you have to talk AND answer yourself.[8D]

But my fear is what if I ask but I doesn't answer at all?

While I would imagine that would be quite effective, I'm not sure I'd have the guts to do it... [:D][:D]

Qtman -> RE: phosadaud's critter corner (7/6/2008 8:29:21 AM)

Mike what happens if you ask and you just don't know the answer.

Also it is usually apparent when someone is talking to themself. Try talking to God or just an imaginary friend. That will work well.

phosadaud -> RE: phosadaud's critter corner (7/6/2008 2:22:58 PM)

Hehehe! This conversation reminded me of one of my parents favorite stories about me when I was a little one. I guess I wasn't even talking yet but was still babbling when this happened. I sat down on a stool at my grandparent's house across from an empty chair and proceeded to have an entire "conversation". My parents said I would "listen" then laugh and laugh, then babble on and on and laugh some more. Then listen. Then throw my hands up and laugh hysterically. The babble more. They had no clue what I was talking about or who I was talking too, but they said it was exactly like a regular conversation - only in baby talk. Apparently there is even video of this (this was pre-VHS though so...).

Of course, I doubt my family would find it nearly as funny if I did something like that now... [8D]

I'm sure this type of behavior would earn you an "I love me" jacket. [:)]

phosadaud -> RE: phosadaud's critter corner (7/6/2008 2:37:24 PM)

I'm thinking so! Ha!

I almost forgot to share what a heathen church I work for. See, for worship, all the backgrounds for the words had American flags in them. Then, we were led in the Pledge of Allegiance to the US flag standing on our platform by one of our worship leaders who is in the military and being deployed back to Iraq next month to fight in the war. Then we watched a patriotic DVD which was followed by a sermon about freedom and our Pastor quoted Scriptures from more than one translation - even the Message - and not once from the KJV.

Oh, and I forgot, right before the sermon, one of the wives of a board member came up to the mic (invited by one of our pastors!) to share a word from the Lord.

So there you have it - we support our troops, we believe war is sometimes necessary, we allow women to speak in church, we pledge our allegience to that idol - the evil USA, we are patriotic and we don't live by the KJV and our pastors sometime use more than one translation of Scripture to make their point.

We must be on the verge of H-E-double hockeysticks... [:(]

phosadaud -> RE: phosadaud's critter corner (7/7/2008 3:29:41 PM)

I was just ahead of my time... [:D][:D][:D]

Well, alas, I had to go back to work today... I really need a new job.... [&o]

And in other news, I had to share something really cool from yesterday. Of course, I'm sure most people would not be excited by this, but I'm odd so I was thrilled. I found TWO wee little baby praying mantis' (less than an inch long) in my backyard yesterday! They were so cute! I hope there are more and they grow up to be big praying mantis'. [:)]

OK, back to normal conversation...

bride48 -> RE: phosadaud's critter corner (7/7/2008 5:25:21 PM)

Um, isn't it "preying mantis"?

phosadaud -> RE: phosadaud's critter corner (7/7/2008 8:35:09 PM)

No - it's "praying" - because they kind of look like they are praying.

I think they are the coolest bugs!

I recall one summer in college, I was working at a fruit packing plant and found a mantis on a box of fruit in the factory. Knowing this wasn't a good place for the little guy, I picked him up and carried him out to some planters filled with flowers. As I'm walking out with the mantis on my hand, I think I freaked out one of the semi-truck drivers... [8D]
