How many people? Maybe there is really 1,000 Kath's! I am signed in through Singing News at the moment. Whilie it does not have all the features of FCN, I do like the color scheme.

Hi Phosy, I subbed to your thread after reading all 9 pages! I was going to initially post, however I decided that I need to ponder my thoughts for a little while before do. I am sure if I didn't that I would leave something out or not craft an answer as eloquently otherwise.

Several years ago, I went to our local fireworks show on the river. I went with my best friend and we sat on the dike with a bunch of other folks. On the backside of the dike, it's all brush and sagebrush and such. Then there are houses back from that. Well, in this community, fireworks are illegal but that doesn't stop anyone. At this one house, the idiots were shooting them off their wooden balcony and over the dry brush. Yeah, I know, real geniuses. As the show on the river ended, we all grabbed out chairs and blankets and started walking back along the dike to our cars. The idiots shot off another firework - and it flopped, landed in the brush and instant brush fire. Several of us dropped our chairs and ran down to put the fire out. I seriously didn't think we were going to be able to do it - the fire went up so fast. We finally got it out and everyone on the dike was giving these folks looks of death. Had we not gotten it out, it would have been very, very bad - possibly even fatal with all the people on the dike (probably 1000's of folks) with no where to run but down steep rocks into a cold, deep and strong river. I really hope someone had their cell phone and called the police. Even if they couldn't do anything because they didn't see it, I hope they gave them the what-for. 2 separate 4th of July's as a kid, we had delinquent's throw fireworks AT us. Another time in college, my apartment managers set them off in the middle of the cars in the parking lot. One even hit my car. Another time several years ago people were setting them off in the narrow courtyard between our multi-story apartment buildings. I was sure, one of the fireworks was going to land on one of the roofs... Needless to say, the 4th always makes me nervous...

Fireworks are illegal in Massachusetts too, however that doesn't stop people from driving into New Hampshire, buying some and then bringing them back though. One company recently even had the gall to send me a flyer to go buy fireworks up there as well.

Let me clarify. Fireworks that leave the ground are illegal. So its pretty much sparklers and those ones that make popping noises that you can buy at the store. LOL

I think that sparklers and such are illegal here too.

Back from my bike ride. I went 19.0 miles and it was an interesting ride. First, there were a lot more folks out and about than I expected which made the round-a-bout fun... Then, a few miles down the bike path I chose for today's ride I come across a group of about 8 or so runners spread out across the path. ONE runner moved over. The others just kept going and I had to practically come to a stop because they left me so little room and we were on a bridge so there wasn't a shoulder... Then, I head around a large bend in the path and all I can see are bikes... lots and lots of bikes.... Apparently there was a triathlon today and I was headed the opposite direction on the bike course... Of course it wasn't marked... So, after almost being driven off the road a couple times (most of the bikes were great - just those one or 2....), I finally made it past to the park and off the course. I followed the path I did last week with the beautiful marina and along the riverfront. I was so sad to see all the mess left by people who shot off fireworks all along the path but didn't bother to clean up... And concerned to see some of the spots with loads of spent fireworks also littered with beer bottles.... Now there's a good combination... Anyway, I followed the path through the next park and passed by our local dive rescue teams pulling their boats out of the water... I really hope they were just doing training... I continued along a dike, followed the path I used to ride when I lived on the other side of town to the next park where I decided it was time to turn around. On the way back, I dodged more pedestrians who didn't understand the concept of "on your left" or, please move over to one side when you see a bike approaching so the bicyclist doesn't end up in the river... By the time I made it back to the park where the finish line was for the triathlon, the first triathletes were starting their run but at least I was heading in their direction and only had to stop a few times. I headed back under the bridge and dodged more of the bicyclists in the race who were coming back for their runs then rode to a friend's house to stop and chat and showoff my new bike. I stayed too long though because the hardest part of my ride (up the really big hill) was next and boy was it hard... But, I made it without walking my bike and now my posterior needs a break... I just now finished mowing & trimming the lawn so now my only projects are inside for the day out of the heat. By the way: Triathletes are some seriously buff & toned people... well, at least the guys are... I wasn't really paying attention to the females... Hehehe!

19 miles? That's far enough to drive, not ride a bike!

Wish power wheelchairs could go 19 miles on a single charge. The usual range is about 5, I think. Maybe less.
