Not much to say this week I guess.

I am enjoying being able to wear contacts again, and enjoying my new prescription. It is nice to have the illusion of 20/20 vision. ;)

I finally got the book for my psychology class on Monday... only two weeks late. I was reading it at the call center today and my coworker said, "You hate that book, don't you? You look so sad."
This week's chapter was on stress. You know what stresses me out? Reading my psychology book. ;)
I really don't like this class, but there is nothing else I can take for this credit that is any more appealing. And I do like that this class doesn't put all the points "in one basket." There are:
- a series of discussion board posts we have to make each week
- a quiz each week we get three attempts on (but not the same questions with each attempt)
- a research paper on a psychological disorder
- a book report on a self-help book
and
- five self-analysis papers we can write for extra credit.

I cannot do online classes where 90%+ of the points are just for chapter quizzes. I don't do well retaining 30 pages worth of information that I don't really care about.

I have not yet received my appraiser intern license, but it has only been 7 business days since they got back my application. The state did deposit my registration fee check, but the background check fee has not yet cleared the bank.

I hated reading my psychology book too Catherine. I don't remember anything from it, either. My grade was strictly based on 5 tests that were 30 points each. The class met once/week for 3 hours. It was agonizing!!!! And all he did was go through each chapter page by page talking about the book. So the lecture wasn't even creative. I could've read the book at home and saved my time in class.

There were 2 good things from that class though.

1) the teacher said, "You're not perfect, I'm not perfect, the author of the book isn't perfect. I'll give you 5 freebie points on each test." SWEET!!!! (and with only 30 points, that was AWESOME!)

2) he and I were both friends with the women from the string quartet on campus and went out with them the night before the final. He saw me there and we chatted all night. He bumped my grade up from a high C to an A after the final.

Still no license for me. I typed in my name on the real estate site where you can check on the status of people's real estate licences and nothing came up for me. I know the search works though because both of my bosses come up.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I got some new foster kittens today. If you don't like to hear me talk about animals you can skip the rest of this post. :)
So I didn't necessarily plan on getting some new foster kittens this week, but I thought that I should go over there anyway since it is not too far from where I work. So I walk in and said, "I didn't call first, but I was wondering if you had any foster kittens that need a home to go to?" The lady sitting at the desk said, "Oh yes! What are you willing to take?" I think today was the fastest I have ever gotten in and out of there with kittens. I am suprised they still have this many in mid-September... the whole kitten nursey was full. The man who did the foster kitten paper work with me said, "Tell your friends. You see how many cats we have back there." :( I wish they weren't so overloaded with cats. I really wonder where the breaking point is of having more homeless animals than there are people to adopt them.
So I have two foster kitties this time.
Hannah
Hannah has a most interesting face. One side is gray and the other side is tan. Matt picked the name because if you take the first four letters and reverse them you get a name. He was trying to think of a name to go with her split-colored face.
Hannah currently weighs 1 pound 6 ounces.
Hannah was not so happy when she first got home. When I took her out of the carrying case she hissed at me. Then an hour or two later when I tried to pick her up to pet her she hissed and ran to the back corner of the cage to hide with her brother. The second time I went to pick her up she didn't protest as much, and she actually layed still on my lap for a short while.
Hannah's face from the front
Hannah's face from the side
I thought this was funny... Hannah was laying next to the litter boxed and then draped her arm over it.
Ike
I figured since Hanna was a recent hurricane, I should pick Ike to go with it.
Ike is a black tabby cat and looks just like the last three kittens I had.
He currently weighs 1 pound 7 ounces
Ike has not hissed but was anxious to get away when Matt and I tried to hold/pet him.
Here is Ike
I know what you mean. I couldn't do it with animals as I'd get way too attached to them and never be able to give them back.
Humans, on the other hand. I'd give away my last 5 cents if I had to to help somebody, and I have on numerous occasions.
Catherine, I like hearing your kitty stories and seeing what they look like.
I seriously love the look of Hannah and I'd take her if I lived there. I've never seen anything like her
I like Ike! He looks so sweet! I think it's pretty cool that you do it too Catherine. I almost feel guilty not taking another pet right now, but, at this time, I think it's the best decision for me. Maybe in a year or so.
I am doing alright.
I am bummed that I missed talking to Douglas today. The first time he called it was 6 AM my time. The phone woke me up and I thought, "Who is calling me at 6 AM?!?!?" So I turned the ringer off my phone in case the "crazy person" tried to call again. He did call again at 10 AM, which would have been a more acceptable time to talk, except my phone was off. :( Well, now I know I should answer all of my unknown calls if I want to talk to Douglas.
He did leave me a voicemail. He said that he got his GED earlier this week and today (Thursday) he was traveling to boot camp.
If he starts boot camp tomorrow and the nine weeks start counting tomorrow, it will work out with our existing plane tickets. Actually I am sorta kinda wanting to rebook the plane tickets because I wanted to add another day to our trip so we could spend a day in Dallas. The only bad part is that if I rebook the tickets, I just know it is going to be a Thanksgiving trip. Thanksgiving = no good with my call center job.
~~~~~~~~~~~

Tonight is the first night the cats have been allowed to explore the house. These two cats are obsessed with 1. trying to run across the laptop keyboard and 2. climbing on the coffee table. Is there any way to train the cats to stay away from these two things? The last two times Hannah got up there I squirted her until she got down, but that just seems so mean.

Sometimes noises will deter them from doing it.
You have to react immediately when you see the unacceptable behaviour (spelled with a "u" just for Maggie).

On September 3rd I posted about Ami freaking out in the middle of the night.

This happened again in the middle of the night on Saturday or Sunday.

Well, then it happened again tonight after I got home from work, which was about 9:30. This is the first time we have been awake for this occurrence. So it turns out these "freaking out" episodes are seizures. She fits every symptom of the tonic-clonic seizure.

It was so very sad to be fully awake when this happened. After the seizure was over she kept trying to get up and then kept falling back over. It really made me want to leave the house. After another 5-10 minutes had past she finally came back to herself and was whining at the cats.

So, prayers would be appreciated as we figure out what to do. We called animal emergency and they said she would be OK until tomorrow unless she had another seizure tonight. So Matt is going to call a vet tomorrow and ask him about her condition and see what we need to do.

Hiya Cath,

Hope you get to talk to Douglass soon. And I am sorry about Ami's seizures. I hope they will find the cause for it. John has epilepsy but I haven't yet experienced him having one. He hasn't had one in 3 or so years.

Well, the vet said that seizures can be caused by diabetes. So we are taking her in at 11 PST for a blood and urine profile.

If it isn't that, an MRI is $1,000. Uhm, I just don't think we can do that. We love Ami, but $1,000 is not just pocket change for us.

So, we shall see how it goes. The nice vet Princess sees was not available today for an immediate appointment, so we are seeing someone else who works at the office. I imagine he is good though too.

Nothing signifcant really happened at the vet.

She talked about the main medicine they put seizure dogs on. With that you have to get their blood tested once or twice a year and make sure it is doing well in their system and that it is not doing damage to their liver. It also might take a few months to find the right dosage.
If medicine #1 doesn't work, they add in a second medicine that works along with the first.

Best case is that she could have no more seizures until she is older. Worst case is, of course, that she could keep having seizures a lot.

They said that if we wanted more testing the next thing would be Xrays before an MRI. The xrays would make sure they is no sort of mass in her.

The medicine would be about $30 a month.

We went ahead and did the blood and urine tests today, and she is supposed to call us back with the results on Friday morning. This vet we saw today is a nice lady. I assume most vets are nice since you probably wouldn't be a vet if you didn't like animals.

So far all three of the seizures Ami has had have been while she is in her crate. I can hardly stand the thought of putting her in there anymore. It makes feel sad to think about her having another seizure.

The vet said the best thing we can do at the moment is keep a log of her seizures and how long they last.

Interesting to me that they jumped to MRIso quickly.

What med is it Catherine?

Logs are good, include in it what she's eating and when, when you take her out and for how long. Literally log everything she does.

Are there any new items in her crate? new sounds while she's in there? New food? treats?

Christine, hope your Dr appt went well.
