Catherine --- OKish for short periods of time is OK. Some of my best friends are that way to me. And it's an improvement, right?

So ...

I met my new landlord on Tuesday this week. She got a tour of the house. I tried to be honest about the things that just weren't perfect when I moved in. things I had to buy. Things that were stained. But I didn't want to whine or make it sound like I didn't like her dad's work. But I thought honesty was best, that way when I move out she doesn't think it was my fault the carpet was stained or the dryer timer didn't stop. She seemed really cool about everything. She even was willing to replace her dad's stainless steele shower with a normal shower, without any prompting from me (I turned that down ... the stainless is so easy to clean).

She offered central air and new windows and a new deck too. Holy cow!!! (Of course in the back of my mind I'm thinking she's going to raise the rent.) I told her the fridge was starting to fail and wouldn't be surprised if it did in teh next couple months. The freezer frosted over and prevented the airflow to the fridge tuesday morning.

She then had no problem deducting the money I've spent at Home Depot in the last 2 months from rent for this month. She didn't question any of it. (YAY!!!!)

So 20 minutes after she left the freezer started frosting up again. I called her and she said she'd come order us a new one. She wanted to remove all the spare wood and drywall her dad had left here too. I got home late Wed night and see a note on the table, "I've ordered a new fridge, dishwasher, washer and dryer. Call this number for delivery."

WOA!!!!! OK. I wasn't expecting that.
So ... today I have new fridge and w/d installed. I'm loving doing laundry. Too bad I've done it all already.

The fridge and dishwasher are stainless and energy saver. Super nice!!!! Way more than I expected.
The w/d are standard. But they work. They're clean. And the dryer timer works.

So ... I think I'm off to a good start with my new landlady.

Oh ... and did I tell you, I got a doggy. she's an australian cattle dog mix and her name is Sheila. She's 3. She has two different colored eyes. She's so fun. I love her so much.

AND ... (I'm full of news today) ... my bestest friend from college just had a baby!!!!!!

With Matt's parents tonight we went to The Melting Pot. The meal took for.e.ver. Holy cow. We were there just under three hours.

We first started off with a cheese course. It came with bread, green apples, and a couple different vegetables to dip. I think it would have been good with fresh bread, but this bread was not fresh and in little cubes.
While we were still eating the cheese, the salads came. They were quite good; probably better than the cheese course.

After they took away the salads and cheese, we sat waiting a long time for the entrées. I thought it was because they were cooking the food and then we would dip it in a sauce. Nope. They bring you all your food raw, and then you have to cook it yourself in hot oil with your fondue stick. Talk about a frustrating dinner. You can only have two pieces of food cooking at once, and each takes several minutes to cook.

The entrée plates have lots of stuff on them.
Matt's parents each got "The French Quarter" with fillet mignon, shrimp, sausage, and maybe something else.
Matt and I shared this platter with pork, marinated beef, duck, chicken breast, white shrimp, and pot stickers.
They also give you a bowl with broccoli, mushrooms, and cut up red potatoes.
There are two kinds of batter you can dip stuff in before it goes in the oil, plus other sauces you can use after the food is cooked.

After dinner, we had the dessert course. The chocolate fondue we got was Smores with chocolate, marshmallows, and bits of graham crackers. With it comes cut up strawberries, bananas, marshmallows, rice crispy treats, brownies, pound cake, and a small piece of cheese cake. It was quite good, and we had a lot of chocolate sauce left at the end.

The dinner there is really pricey. Matt's parents had a $100 gift card, and I would not be surprised if they put another $100 on their credit card.

It was a unique experience, but I don't know that we will ever go back.

If any of you ever decide to go, don't plan anything for the rest of the evening, and also make sure you have a small savings account for the tab.

We have something similar to that around here called La Fondue. it's VERY pricey and takes all night. But I hear it's a fun experience and a great way to spend time with people and really get to chat while eating. not a standard out-to-dinner meal.

Catherine, the bread is SUPPOSED to be stale for the cheese fondue. It holds more cheese that way and doesn't fall apart as easily.

We have a restaurant here called The Melting Pot but given the neighbourhood it's in, it's not the same as yours. I've wanted to go there. I haven't had cheese fondue in forever.

Christine, that is AMAZING about your new landlord. Wow!

I wish I was like normal people where 6.5 hours was a semi-decent night of sleep. I have trained myself in to needing 8-9 hours. I am dragging today.

When I first got up Matt showed up at the house. He went to go file for his new gun to be concealed carry, and so he was close by.
He didn't call to tell me he was coming, and it scares me when people I am not expecting show up when I am home alone.
Then he had to make a joke that he was home because he got fired from his job. Not funny.
The kittens were crying because they wanted my attention, and Matt started meowing back at them. I hate when he does that. If we had a baby who was crying because it needed attention I would hope he wouldn't make fun of the baby. That is how I feel about the kittens. Matt says he is just trying to talk to the cats. I don't think meowing back means anything to them. I have asked him not to meow at the kittens unless he wants to go tend to them, yet he keeps doing it.
I like that I wake up most morning to be alone in my morning grump.

Went to the appraisal place for three hours. The boss spent like 45 minutes explaining to me the quirks of the software we use to upload most appraisals. That was not that fun of a demonstration.
Wednesday I am going back and we are going to have a meeting about my internship.

Friday Matt is going to see if he can get off work and we are going to start working on the outside of our house. We are going to repaint it and put up new trim. The current trim is in very bad condition. Two pieces have fallen off recently and most the rest of it has pealing paint.

I hate being tired.

Still 6.5 hours til I can go home. Tis so tempting to use some of the 24 hours of sick time I will lose when I go down to part-time here so I can spend more time at the appraisal place.

I need 8 to 9 hours sleep too, Catherine. In fact, I read somewhere that that is actually more normal. Most people live with chronic sleep deprivation.

I have to admit I meow at the kitties too, they meow at me and I meow back. We can carry on a conversation for several minutes. :)

I don't like it either. Larry's daughter used to do that too, and it drove me nuts. I know it was her house too, even if she lived with her mom, but when I worked the midnight shift and slept days, and would hear someone in the house I'd want to get the gun.

Work was so dead today. One time when the supervisor looked at the call volume report she said, "Are you kidding me?" I think it might be because of the Olympics. Also they didn't have the most well-liked hosts on today.

I took an hour lunch break and went to Home Depot and got some paint color idea thingies. The house is either going to be tan with dark green trim or tan with medium brown trim. I am still deciding. Currently it is a blue/grey color.
Matt reminded me that since we are horrible at painting that we are probably going to hire someone. Oh yah. So he is going to try and call some people tomorrow if his work is not too busy.

I found out that all the Army graduations where Douglas will be are on Friday. Family Day is Thursday where they do demonstrations and the Soldiers can check out and leave base with their family. Now I have to decide what flight I want to take. And since it is so close to Thanksgiving no $300 trip available. The flights that I can take range from $408-$464 round trip. Each one has its own +. I think the deciding factor will be if I can find a hotel with an airport shuttle or not. The $406 flight + rental car will turn out to be much more than the $464 flight with no rental car (or maybe just a rental car for one day instead of 2).

Tomorrow I get to sleep in. Hallelujah.

Sleep deprivation is the pits! I just got diagnosed with fibromyalgia on Tuesday, and I have to change my routine the hour before I go to bed so that I'm relaxed and can sleep. Amongst other things, fibromyalgia is a result of not sleeping well, and when you have fibromyalgia, you can't sleep well. It's like the chicken and the egg thing.

I hope you can sleep well.

Well, I told the call center scheduling lady that I am going to go to part-time. She started out by listing all the stuff I would lose by going to part-time (vacation time, sick time, less holiday pay, mostly-paid-for insurance). Then she told me that it would be almost impossible to go back to full-time if I ever wanted to. She said, "Do you want to think about it for a few days or a week and get back to me?" No, no need to think about it further... I have been thinking about it all summer. They thought they might have to reduce my salary also because now they hire people for less than what I make, but they checked with HR and HR said I will still get paid the same. Later on the scheduling lady said, "Well, let me know if you change your mind." I wonder if she actually cares.

I will do full-time for two more weeks and then do part-time. She said we would make up a part time schedule next week. I am really hoping I can just work Monday-Thursday for five hours each day.

I only get one day off this weekend because my best call center buddy asked me to trade her a Saturday off so she could go to a concert and so I did. So I will be off Friday (tomorrow) and Wednesday. Kind of blah, but I will survive.

Christine! Great news on the landlord!

Catherine, I hope things work out the way you would like then to with your job. I just keep thinking about how the appraisal thing went before after you had so much time invested there. I'll pray that it be more consistent and stable.

Well, yesterday I stayed at home and did pretty much nothing. Did three loads of laundry, tended to the pets, and put away the groceries that have been sitting on the counter for a long time now. Besides for that I surfed the Internet and watched TV all day. The bad part is doing nothing made my head and neck hurt. :( I wish I did not have this problem.

We are having record temperatures here. I am really surprised. I thought summer was starting to fade after it turned to August. The high here today is supposed to be 100*. Average high for this time of year is the high 80's. I wondered why it felt sooooooo hot in the house yesterday.

Well, the record highest ever temperature for Reno is 108*.

The record highest ever temperature for Las Vegas is 117*. Seems like it should be much higher.
