Work

I have to say I am amazed that my work took one of our suggestions that involves spending money. Last weekend a bunch of us in the call center were saying that we wished there was a vending machine that sold stuff besdies candy and junk food and soda. Well, I show up to work today and guess what there is? A new vending machine with stuff like sandwiches and lunchables and juice and Starbucks drinks! Wow!

There is another ton of overtime sign up for this weekend. I do not know why. I was told that last year we were not busy on Mother's Day. Why would we be this year? I don't get it. Don't people have better things to do on Mother's Day besides sit around and watch home shopping networks? It will be "funny" if we are all sitting around on Sunday doing nothing.

Mother's Day

I have been trying to deal with my bitterness towards this stupid holiday that we have to celebrate every year (though this sentence may not convey that )

Monday I went and bought cards to send to my grandmas, Melissa, and Matt's grandma. I told Matt he had to pick out a card for his mom on his own - I have no idea what to get her.

Tuesday I mailed out the cards since mail seems to take four days to get anywhere that isn't northern California.

Wednesday I ordered flowers to send to one of my grandmas.

So far my only sadness was when I first got to work today (Thursday). The scheduling lady was talking about how she was trying to find people to come in on Sunday, but no one wanted to because everyone has plans. That made me sad and wishing that I had plans with my real mom who cared about me. At least my sadness did not last all night.

I told Matt that this year he should get his mom something that isn't at the grocery store on the way to her house. Ha. I doubt he would come up with anything on his own. I work at a place with an abundance of jewelry, so that should be easy, right? Well, I have no idea what colors Matt's mom likes to wear. He doesn't know either. I don't want to get her something that she doesn't really like but only wears because she got it as a gift from her beloved son. So I bought two different pendants. Hopefully one of them will work. Should he give her both of them? Should he pick one and the other one we do something else with?

After I got home from work I ordered flowers to send to the other grandma.

I wish I had the money to send flowers to everyone I love and miss. My economy stimulus check just showed up in our account an hour ago. Too bad that is already allotted to paying for Disney World and not for $1200 of Mother's Day flowers.

I suspect Sunday will probably be kinda hard still. Not like I can pretend it is just another normal day when I work with and talk to so many people all day. I signed up for two hours of overtime since I have nothing better to do.

Let Matt pick one of the pendants to give her. She'll love it, I'm sure. That was very thoughtful of you to do.

So many thoughts are in that hug.

It's kind of late at this point but does Matt's mom have any kind of "Mother's" jewelry, like a pendant with birthstones in them of Matt and his sister?
There are all kinds of stuff like that from rings to charms. She may like a charm bracelet with a charm with each birthstone, including mom-dad-kids-grandkids.
Just a thougth.

Josh picked out a ring, years ago already, that has his stone, Terry's stone and Michael's stone. I loved/love it and I am wearing it still right now.

I put it back up because he's going through an especially naughty phase and looking at that "What? Me????" picture makes me smile.

Good idea about the birthstone jewelry, Sharon.

This ring I have is very subtle. Josh knew I wanted something that included his brother and sister but didn't want it too fancy as to have people asking and then getting an answer that they might be uncomfortable with. This ring is perfect...except, now I wish mine and Jeff's was on it too.

We aren't really celebrating mothers day around here this year.

It's the first without Jeremy's mom and he's in kind of a cloud about it. It will definitely be a low key day for us.

{{{{{Brandy}}}}}

I need to send my mom something. I'll probably do a gift card to Amazon. I've been a lousy daughter this year. No bday present either. although I did buy her bday lunch while in AZ.

I have so many thoughts in my head and can't seem to make them into sentences. Catherine --- I think it's great you picked out some jewelry for Matt's mom. I think she'll appreciate it.

My tax rebate won't come until July. BLECH!!! I didn't file electronically this year because I had to pay and had to organize the funds just right to pay it, and I didn't want to pay extra to file electronically. (It's really different suddenly being in a different tax bracket and not meeting the requirements to file for free and/or get money back.) At any rate, my check won't be direct deposited, and since my SSN ends in 95, I won't get my check until the last set are cut. Lovely. I wish it could get here sooner. I have a lot of expenses coming up this summer.

LOL...thanks. Not the first and I'm sure it won't be the last.

With Brian and I as parents, it is no wonder that all of our kids are little spitfires. Honestly, I wouldn't want it any other way.

{{{{{{{{{{{Catherine}}}}}}}}}}} I can see why Mother's Day is so difficult for you. I was nine when my dad died and for years after that I couldn't handle Father's Day. I think it's cool that you're wanting to send flowers to everyone you "love and miss." What a generous spirit you have!

Brandy, I know some people who celebrate Mother's Day if the mother hasn't yet given birth. I wonder if you could stick that little bee in his bonnet somehow.

Christine, I've been a lousy daughter to my mom too. And I totally forgot about Mother's Day. I was going to take her out today for her March birthday (she was out of town and then sick) but now I'm sick and unable. Maybe I need to follow Catherine's example and get her some flowers. {{{{{{Christine}}}}}}

Brandy --- I sent my sister a mother's day card last year and she was still pregnant. Heck, she was only about 6 weeks pregnant then. They have mother-to-be Mother's DAy cards.

ETA: Scratch that. TWO years ago she was only about 6 weeks pregnant and I still sent her something. Last year she was already a mom. OK.

I am not sure if she has any mother's jewelry. She wears lots and lots of rings, but I am not sure what all of them mean. A couple are wedding/anniversary rings, and one was her mothers's, and beyond that I don't know. I thought about buying her a pendant that said MOM, but none of the ones I saw seemed quite right.

I was thinking that too after I read Brandy's post. Hallmark definitely has mother-to-be cards, as do other stores with a bigger selection of cards.

Thanks for all of your posts!

What is wrong with Princess?

She has been throwing up/spitting up an awful lot. I understand she has a sensitive tummy. But tonight she deliberately went in to the crate to spit up. Why? Because she thought she hasn't thrown up there recently enough? Usually she picks a spot on the floor somewhere... but never the same spot.

Less than an hour after I cleaned up her spit up, she pooed on the floor. The last time I had to clean up inside dog poo was when the Christmas tree was up, and before that I don't remember the last time. Why would she do that? She didn't indicate to me that she needed to go outside.

Is she sick? Is she mad at me? Did she get dog amnesia and forget that she is supposed to do her business outside?

I am certainly not a big fan of having to clean up after her all the time. Matt has been saying that we should get rid of Princess. I would feel bad about doing that. Considering she is almost 2.5 and still has these problems, I don't think she will grow out of them. The last time we left the bedroom unattended with the door open Princess went in there and peed on the bed. Princess has not been in our bedroom much since then, but when she has gone there she has thrown up on our bed twice.

I would definitely miss the times she is being sweet laying on the couch with me, or how happy she is to ride in the car and go to the dog park and play fetch. But why does she have to be so bad with her manners? Right now I have Princess in the crate with no blankets since those are in the wash, and she is sitting there staring at me and squeaking because she is sad.

It does make me sad that she is so bad, but I do still love her. We do not have any of these problems with Ami. When Ami is sick she won't eat anything and then we know. Ami does not do her business in the house. Ami does not bark relentlessly the first moment she is bored outside. Ami doesn't have to be bribed to go in the crate when we want her to be in there. Ami does not have to be called and persuaded to come inside. Ami seems to really enjoy being a pet dog, where Princess seems to just tolerate us to see what we will give her.

I'm going to ask you a question that is not in any way meant to be derogatory.

Do you and Matt have a lot of heated arguments in front of Princess?

I ask because it sounds like stress is what is causing Princess' change in behavior.

I know that you and Matt have been under a lot of stress right now.
Animals are very quick to pick up on that sometimes.

Catherine, take her to a vet.

Get her a thorough physical, top to bottom.

Rule out illness like sour stomach before thinking about getting rid of her.

When does she eat and when does she throw up? Is she throwing up food? Yellow foam? What food is she eating?

The defecating could be related to not feeling well.

And I agree wholeheartedly with SharMar, they pick up on stress and can be just as affected as we can.

Most of the time it is yellow or clear foam. Once last week the foam had a few pieces of food in it. About two weeks ago she threw up some grass with the foam.

She eats twice a day at 12 PM and 12 AM. She eats Blue Buffalo salmon and sweet potato food. She seems to really like the food because when it is feeding time she runs right to the bowl and starts eating.

A lot of times she pukes within five minutes of coming back in the house from being outside. Maybe because she is excited? The last time she was at a vet and I told him that he said, "My guess would be the temperature change from inside to outside (it was December then)." Then there was last night when she puked after she had been in a while, so that broke the general pattern.

I will take her to a vet before we decide to get rid of her. How would they treat sour stomach?

Over the counter meds to reduce acid build up.

Why does she eat at such odd times?

You could try a mid afternoon snack to see if that helps sustain her better. honestly it sounds like an acidic stomach to me... but I'm not a vet.

Well, she was gaining weight every time I took her to a vet and they weighed her, so they said I should feed her twice a day instead of once. And since I work swing shift, I feed her when I wake up and after I get home from work.

Once you take her to the vet it will give you a better perspective. But I too agree with Shar Mar that stress may be a factor. Like children, some can be stronger but some can be more sensitive to their environment. And I think that this situation is a wonderful opportunity for both you and Matt to work together in loving and taking care of Princess.

Well, I made it through the weekend. Hopefully after tomorrow everyone will be done talking about mother's day. Today I didn't really feel sad - just tired and not completely physically well. I found a good book to read that someone left in one of the hang-out areas so that kept me busy most of the day. I look forward to reading it some more tomorrow to find out what happens.

Work was quite slow all weekend. The "I would like to leave early" sign up sheet made it to two pages each weekend day. They should not have had people sign up for all the overtime and just went with their normal staffing.

This is the last week of school! Hallelujah!
Tomorrow I have to go to my medical office computers class in turn in the final project - I hope I did everything corretly. There is nothing to check my work against, so I would have no clue if I messed up somewhere along the way.
Then the rest of the week I have to finish all my accounting stuff. I have two homework sessions, two quizzes, and one multi-chapter test to do before Thursday night. There is also some extra credit which is always a good idea to do.
I dropped my online Business 101 class a few weeks ago. Reading a chapter each week and taking a quiz was really not teaching me anything, IMO. I might go back and take it again some other time in an in-person class. I think I would learn a lot more hearing someone explain things and give examples.
