hi guys,

I just wanted to know if there is anyone here that does not believe in dating/courtship and just would rather seek the Lord about someone your friends with and if He says yes then preparing for marriage in an engagement? If so, would you please give me some more thoughts on this...

I would highly recommend Quest for Love by Elisabeth Elliot. Very good book.

Personally I see "dating" and courtship as two different things. Modern dating is not usually about trying to see if you are compatible with someone for marriage---it's going out to have fun with the opposite sex----someone you're attracted to----hoping it leads to a deeper relationship. Courting is spending time with someone you think you may want to marry---it's marriage focused.

I am happily married now, but if my husband were to pass away, I would NOT date. If I wanted to be married again, I would only spend time with someone I was interested in and who also was marriage minded(courting). I would not waste my time with someone who was not sure what they wanted relationship wise......... Blessings............

Either way, don't just sit at home and pray. Enjoy going out and meeting folks of both sexes and all ages. You never know if a friend knows a friend who may you may get along with wonderfully.

I agree with Lastblast, if you want to get married don't spend too much time with any gentleman whom won't fit for the long run. It would only raise their expectations and discourage a gent whom may be a better match from approaching you.

There was a widow in our church who after she had grieved her beloved husband of 30 years, asked God to give her another good husband. But she asked God that if He did have a man for her, he'd have to come knock on her door.

A lonely but godly man heard she was interested in remarrying, and some Christian friends encouraged him to go look her up and talk to her. They gave him her address and... you guessed it. They married and had several wonderful years together before God took them both home.

We have another widow in our church, a godly and younger woman (who wrote the book on how a Christian responds to losing both a husband and a small child) who has asked for prayer for a husband. I am watching eagerly... (We live in the middle of where there are more cows than people. This should be good!).

I suggest you read the book "The Book of Romance" by Tommy Nelson. It spells out the Biblical way of dating/courtship and marriage to the right person.

I also think dating and courtship are different. And I don't think there is anything wrong with praying over a dear friend whom you already know and enjoy being with. If you're such good friends and know a marriage can work together, then seek godly advice, pray, and prepare for marriage.
