Today’s Text and Thought of Encouragement:
“Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honor preferring one another.”
Romans 12: 10
“Ask God to give thee skill
In comfort’s art,
That thou mayest consecrated be
And set apart
Unto a life of sympathy.
For heavy is the weight of ill
In every heart;
And comforters are needed much
Of Christ – like touch.”
Anna E. Hamilton
Today’s Study Text:
“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye.”
Psalm 32: 8
“Received and Accepted”
“Acceptance” – Willingly received. Approved.
“For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.”
Isaiah 41: 13
Will I accept God’s plan for my life?
“Accepting God’s Plan.”
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”
Proverbs 3: 5-6
There is a favorite song I learned many years ago called “Day By Day.” It was written in 1865 by Carolina Saudell Berg and translated from her native language, Swedish, to English by A. L. Skoog. The words to the song were written as a poem after her father was killed unexpectedly in a boating accident. Even more tragedy struck her when at age 12 she became paralyzed. While this song is best known for its first verse – it is the second stanza of the poem I wish to share with you today:
“Every day the Lord himself is near me with a special mercy for each hour;
All my cares He bears and cheers me,
He whose name is Counsellor and power.
The protection of His child and treasure is a charge that on Himself He laid;
As your days, your strength be in measure,
This the pledge to me He made.”
Even with the pain of a life filled with one heartbreaking event after another, this young woman never veered from the path God had for her life – she accepted God’s will.
Over the past few days as we have looked at the word “acceptance” I have come to realize that when I accept God’s love and when I accept God’s Son – I have taken the first steps toward acceptance of myself as made by my Creator. By accepting myself, I can accept my family and others around me – which leads me directly down the path God has chosen for my life. And this brings us full circle right back to where we began our study – back to God. For it is God’s love that works to direct you and me. It is God’s love that draws us down a path of right living. It is God’s love that helps us reach Heaven’s potential in our lives
The question for you and me today is: “Will I accept God’s will for my life?”
This prayer written by Kathy Keay helps express the sentiment I am a certain all of us have experienced at one time or another as we struggle to find our way. May our daily journey teach us to trust our lives to God everyday.
I feel I have been sleepwalking my way through life;
Waiting in no woman’s land
For something significant to happen;
For someone to come and lead me to the Real Life.
Alone, I have felt insignificant,
Unable to take control of my own life;
Not sure of what my life is.
Help me to wake up
And measure my present realities;
Who I am, where I am, and what I can be;
To kiss Sleeping Beauty goodbye once and for all
As I learn to put my trust in You.”
Inspired by Madonna Kolbenschlag
“O Merciful One, I come to you
As the Samaritan woman came to Jacob’s well,
Seeking to quench her thirst.
Tell me who I am.
I have looked for you outside myself,
Seeking you in the streams of other lives.
In the visions of other’s dreams.
Yet my thirst remains.
Tell me who I am.
Speak to me from the wells of your mercy and love.
Reveal to me my inner waters of healing and renewal.
Tell me who I am.
Release the waters of compassion and caring,
Healing and hope that flow within my body.
Let these waters flow through my life
and overflow into the lives of others.
Tell me who I am.”
“You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy, at Your right hand there are pleasures forevermore.”
Psalm 16: 11
