“ ‘Come!’ say the Spirit and the Bride. Whoever hears, echo, ‘Come!’ Is anyone thirsty? Come! All who will, come and drink. Drink freely of the Water of Life!”
“The Sin Problem #6”
“One of the most fundamental marks of true repentance is a disposition to see our sins as God sees them.”
What does the word “repentance” mean to me personally?
“Before God can deliver us we must undeceive ourselves.”
As we have studied the problem of sin, we have also seen that while this toxin has left a blight, not only on our planet, but also in our lives, God in His expansive mercy, forgiveness, and grace has made a way to bring His children back into a perfect union with Him.
As you reflect today on God’s embracing kindness in your own life, I want to share with you this prayer written by author Macrina Wiedekehr in her book, Seasons of Your Heart.
A Prayer for Coming Home
“O True and Ever-Living God
I repent for all my false and empty gods
I look again into the closets of my life
My mind, my heart
To see what rules me.
Whom do I serve?
What are the possessions
The people, the opinions
That control my life?
O Welcoming One
I see you standing at the door
Of my heart
Waiting for me
You gaze at my strange gods
With an eye of compassion.
I am ashamed to invite you
Into my cluttered house
Yet my heart aches
To be at home with you
My hand is reaching for the door
I hear myself saying, Come on in
I have more room than I thought I had
Come on in, and be the only God in my life.
May this moment of homecoming last forever.”
“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with (her) and (she) with me.”
New International Version
“Come Close to the Door”
“The wind is a tempest in the peach trees.
The sun warms the skin on my face.
But coldness creeps close to my heart
When I think I have to live so far from you.
The birds chirp: ‘Come close to the Door.’
Open it! God’s there waiting to resurrect you!
I am speechless.
This is love beyond reason.”
