Protected From The Power Of The Enemy
"…in the word of truth, in the power of God; by the weapons of righteousness for the right hand and the left…"
II Corinthians 6:7
Swarming under the mighty waters of the ocean waves are countless creatures of wonder all masterfully designed by the hand of God, their Creator. During breakfast this morning enjoying God’s beauty aboard a beautiful ship, I witnessed a marvelous sight. As the ship made its way through the large body of water, all at once a team of flying fish would spring out of the water propelling them forward a few feet before diving back down into the deep. It was absolutely fascinating to watch as they did instinctively what God had designed them to do. They had a built in defense mechanism just as all His creatures do, including you and me. It’s the part of God’s design given to His creation as path of escape if met with a threat of any kind. When these flying fish sensed danger or needed a way of escape they took flight with the wings He gave them.
God has given each of us "spiritual wings" of protection just like He has to the flying fish in His vast oceans. Instinctively, we protect ourselves in different ways. For some it’s retreating into a shell and allowing no one or nothing to come near. For others it’s exerting their own power through abrasive personalities, harsh judgments and even humor. And for many it’s in striking back in hurt with words and actions, demeaning others through slander and gossip, so we can feel better about ourselves. And still others, it’s riding on the wings of pride elevating one’s own accomplishments before the eyes of others. We all have our fleshly defense mechanisms. What’s yours, beloved?
Our God given spiritual defense mechanism is His Word. His Word protects us, it delivers us, seals us, guides us, refines and purifies us. It reproves us, builds our faith, it gives us wisdom and motivation to keep pressing on, it renews our hope and brings our heart peace and comfort, and it is mighty to save! It’s everything we need or will ever need to live in a way that is pleasing to God and the power to withstand the onslaught of the enemy. We are protected by the power of God’s Holy, infallible eternal Word! His Word is our "spiritual wings" and they will never fail us.
Maybe you are at a cross road of uncertainty today or even at an impossible passage. You may be facing a divorce, living with the loss of a child or loved one, coping with a life threatening disease or an unfaithful spouse. Maybe there is a rebellious child out in the world that you are praying will come home. You may be a single mother or raising your grandchildren because you have a child who is incarcerated. Maybe you have an addiction that no one knows about or a secret relationship you are too ashamed to tell anyone about and you don’t know how to get out of it. You could be facing death or living in fear of something or someone. Hear what God says to you…take wings upon the power of My Word and let My Word lift you up to soar above your circumstances.
His Word gives flight to my soul.
