The Covenant Keeper by Marisa Zeppieri Caruana

I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.

Genesis 9:13 NIV

For many of us, there is a date that serves as a reminder of a stormy life moment – a speck of time that eternally stands out and perhaps jolted us off course.  For me, that date was April 22, 2001.  I was run over by a drunk driver while walking to my car.  My 100-pound frame collided with a pick-up truck traveling 50 M.P.H. and within a matter of seconds, my life forever changed.

When a traumatic life storm occurs, the people around us react and process things differently.  Some friends and family were shocked and angry… understandable emotions after such a senseless incident.  Others were concerned about the future - would I recover, walk again, finish college?

For me, I remember just being in awe of the fact that I was still alive.  I distinctly recall the trauma surgeon stating, Someone up above must think you’re pretty special.

He was right; God believes I am very special indeed.  In fact, He feels the same way about you.  And, because He cares for us so much, He promises us an abundant life and offers us a fresh start.

The life-changing event I mentioned above was my fresh start – shortly after, I accepted Christ.  He also gave Noah and his family a fresh start after the floodwaters receded (Gen 9:8-16).  The rainbow was then presented as a sign of the covenant between God and the earth, signifying peace and serving as a reminder of the value of life.

I still stare in wonderment every time I catch a glimpse of a rainbow after a storm.  I immediately think of the promises God made to me, to us.  One promise to remember when in the midst of a storm is

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Jeremiah 29:11 NIV

Despite many grueling years recovering from my injuries, my hope remained in Christ.  He would not let that event destroy my life, but would work it out for good.  He promises this!  And, when God makes a covenant with us, Healways carries out His end of the deal!

No matter what storms we navigate through, let’s not forget God’s promises and that by having the covenant keeper on our side, we will always rise above even the most crushing of waves.

Perhaps you are in the midst of one of life’s storms.  If so, take a few minutes researching God’s promises.

With a quick online search, you can find list after list of all of the incredible promises He has made to you.  He wants you to stand firm on these promises and remind you that whatever situation you’re currently experiencing He will work it out for good.

Remember, He loves you (Romans 5:8), will never leave you (Deuteronomy 31:6), will supply all of your needs (Philippians 4:19), and will direct your steps (Proverbs 3:5-6).

Dear Lord, thank You for being with me at all times and for working out every situation for my good. Please help me remain faithful in your promises and find rest and peace in your strength and love for me.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
