Power in Prayer

Café Menu for Monday, February 1, 2016

Today’s Special is:  Plugging Into God’s Power

Carefully prepared just for you by your friend, Carolyn Dale Newell

Main Ingredient:

Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.

Ephesians 3:20 NKJV

Entrée:

Hundreds of miles from your home there is a power grid releasing electricity through high voltage lines to your house.  The power is already there, but before you can use it, you must plug into the outlet and turn the switch on.  God’s power is available to us in the same manner.

Paul began by praying that God would strengthen the Ephesians with His might in the inner man (Eph. 3:16).  This should be our prayer, not just for us, but for the church.  As this occurs, we will see the presence of divine power in our lives.

Christ will dwell in our hearts (Eph. 3:17).  This is not speaking of salvation, but the Greek word used here for “dwell” means to settle down.  As Christ settles down, there is no room for self and sin.  We cannot expect Christ to dwell where they exist.

Next, we can know the depths of God’s love, and as we yield our lives and our will to Christ, we will begin to love as Christ loves.

Finally, we will be filled with the fullness of God (Eph. 3:19).  We will be filled with the Spirit rather than self.  We will be filled with righteousness rather than sin.

Paul has shown us the process for spiritual power.  Not only is God able to do what we think or ask, but He will do exceedingly abundantly above that.  That is amazing, but look where the power is found.  The power is IN US!

When we are plugged into prayer to God, and we submit ourselves to Him, His divine power will be evident in us.  This week, begin praying to be strengthened with God’s might.  Yield to the Spirit and obedience.  Plug into God’s power by praying.

Take Out:

In our busy world, prayer often gets our left-overs.  Be intentional about your prayer time.

How have you seen the power of God at work in your life?

Prayer is the most powerful conversation you will have today.

Dessert:

Dear Lord,

Thank You for strengthening me.  I feel weak and powerless, but Your limitless power is at work in me.  Help me live a life of submission, and a life filled with Your power.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
