Today’s Special is: When Life Becomes Overwhelming

Carefully prepared just for you by your friend, Carolyn Dale Newell

Main Ingredient:

Hear my cry, O God; Attend to my prayer. From the end of the earth I will cry to You, when my heart is overwhelmed; lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

Psalm 61:1-2 NKJV

Entrée

David was overwhelmed.  His son, Absalom had not only rejected him, but he had taken the throne from David.  The son he loved was treating him like an enemy.  We get overwhelmed too, and it doesn’t take that much to do it.

One of those days where everything goes wrong can be overwhelming.  Dealing with children and trying to pay the bills can beat us down, especially when you are a single mom.  Taking care of aging parents when their health fails can overwhelm us.  A busy schedule, a health crisis, a home repair, a car repair, or a demanding job can also be sources of feeling overwhelmed, but we can pray.

Like David, we can cry out to God, who is higher than us and bigger than anything that can overwhelm us.  No matter where we are or what is happening, we can pray.

We can boldly ask God to hear and attend our prayer.  He is the only one that can lead us to that safe, secure place.  He is our shelter from the world (Psalm 61:3).  He is the strong tower that we run into for safety (Psalm 61:3; Proverbs 18:10).  Like baby chicks are sheltered under the wings of the hen, God shelters us from the enemy’s attacks (Psalm 61:4).

Satan can bombard us with one thing after another, but we can find quiet and rest under the wings of our heavenly Father.

Quite likely, you are overwhelmed today.  Take the time to step into the strong tower of safety.  Kneel under your Father’s wings.  Feel His peaceful calmness as He provides you with security, and rest in His promises today!

Take Out:

No matter how busy our lives become, we must always take time for God.  That special time of prayer and meeting with Him in His Word will keep us anchored to what really matters.  Staying close to God will help ground us during those overwhelming times.

Dessert:

Dear heavenly Father, hear my cry today.  With all that is going on, I need to feel Your peace and joy amidst the world’s demands.  Thank You for being my Rock and my Strong Tower.  Thank You for providing shelter under Your wings.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
