What do you do when you feel SO ugly.

What do you do when you feel SO ugly?

Write about it on the internet?

I mean most people probably don’t, but anyway…..

Before I left for LA, I had this MAJOR self image crises, it was kind of weird. Suddenly I found myself scrambling for new make-up, new hair, a new face care regimen, new anything to make myself look different, I hated the way I looked.

I thought I had gotten over this a few years ago:

-this self hatred thing…

-this looking at myself in the mirror with disgust thing….

-this seeing a picture of myself and thinking “is that me, is that what I look like, what’s wrong with me?” thing…

But, it popped up again the other day without me noticing, all the sudden, I couldn’t stand the sight of myself.

The Bible speaks SO clearly about the enemy who comes to steal, kill and destroy. (John 10:10)

your peace, your joy, your thankfulness, your everything.

The Bible says, be sober of mind for the devil is like a roaring lion seeking for who he can devour. (1 Peter 5:8-9)

WHAT…….thankfully the Bible also says, He who is in me (and YOU as a believer of Jesus), is stronger than he who is in the world. (1 John 4:4) And I will praise Jesus for that truth, the thing was this self hatred thing felt real, it felt really really real and it felt like it wasn’t going to go away this time.

I remember coming to the conclusion on one of those “hard birthdays” that this was the youngest I was ever going to be, here on earth, so I should be thankful instead of hateful and mean to myself.

When I was 25 I thought I was so ugly, but 12 years later after seeing a picture of my 25 year old self, my 37 year old self thought, “Gosh, I was kinda pretty, why did I think I was so ugly?”

Then I started to think, “Lindsay when you are 50 you are going to think your 37 year old self was pretty. SO STOP BEING MEAN TO YOURSELF…..”

Back when I was in Atlanta I was over hating the mirror so I took some old lip stick and wrote “How Lovely is Your Dwelling Place OH LORD Almighty.” Psalm 84:1 really big on my mirror. That way every time I wanted to agree with the enemy about how ugly I was, the lip stick scripture would smack me in the face. I would then suddenly realize that I was hating the very dwelling place of the Holy, Living God of the Universe. I think that is kind of wrong. I mean I am not a theologian but doesn’t sound right to me.

Recently I found this little nugget of love in Song of Solomon:

“Behold, you are beautiful, my love, behold you are BEAUTIFUL.”  Song of Solomon 4:1

-GOD (the One who created the UNIVERSE)

The One who created the universe says I (and YOU) are beautiful, who are we to disagree with Him? I mean, SERIOUS.

Y’all, we really need to put aside the “feelings” we have about ourselves and instead replace those ugly thoughts with the truth of who we are, we are beloved and beautiful.

You are beloved and BEAUTIFUL

Lindsay the random blogger girl is not saying this about you, It’s God!

You are the Apple of His eye! (Zechariah 2:8)

The Word of God says so…..

So, let’s respond to the enemy like Jesus did, reminding the devil of what GOD says:

“It is written, I am the dwelling place of the Lord of Lords and King of Kings, the God MOST High and He calls me lovely, He calls me beautiful”

Every word of God is flawless. (Proverbs 30:5) and Truth is Truth!

God’s healing LOVE

God’s healing LOVE, it sounds so cliche, but is it? Love is one of those words that gets thrown around A LOT, I personally say it a lot, I don’t think twice to throw it out there, especially if the “feeling” is there, like I LOVE payday candy bars, or my heated seats in my car, or the sunshine.   I love the ocean, my friends, my family… But what does LOVE really mean?

 Love [luhv]

1. a profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person.

2. a feeling of warm personal attachment or deep affection, as for a parent, child, or friend.

3. passion or desire.

4. a person toward whom love is felt; beloved person; sweetheart.

5. (used in direct address as a term of endearment, affection, or the like): Would you like to see a movie, love?

Now that I read the definition, do I really consider a payday candy bar this important? I mean sometimes, I do like them, but probably not THIS much! The one thing that is amazing and pretty clear and straight forward in the Bible is that God (our Father in Heaven) LOVES US. I know I know we have all heard this, not new information Lindsay!

I have heard that LOVE is a choice, makes sense to me (I can choose to LOVE payday candy bars if I want- you may choose to love a snickers candy bar?) but we do have a choice, right?

So we can CHOOSE to believe that God the Father, our perfect Father in Heaven LOVES us AND we can to CHOOSE to receive His love, or we can choose to know that scripture that Tim Tebow paints on his face during football games, have it memorized, even tell others about it, but still hold our hand out to God and not really receive His love.

I know it sounds impractical, but honestly my heart has been so healed by receiving God’s love for me, not for the world, but for me. . It was a process to believe and receive the fact that the Creator of the universe, LOVED ME, after ALL I had done, not only does He love me (AND YOU), but in a tender way, a profound way. He feels a warm personal attachment and deep affection for me as His beloved child, I am His sweetheart. In Zechariah 2:8, God refers to us as the apple of His eye.  (that’s God, the One who created the entire universe) that can be a little hard to wrap your brain around.

I read a few years ago in the Bible that God IS Love. Have you ever sat and really thought about that, I hadn’t the first 35 years of my life, but this summer I started reading this book Captivating and it talked a lot about how a women is made and how she requires and desires love, I believe a man is the same (but I can only speak from a women’s perspective) that our Creator designed us to be LOVED, because He Himself is LOVE, He gives us a choice to choose whether we will 1. Love Him and 2. Let Him Love us.

That’s all I have…. I think it’s important to sit in and think on.. Ask God why He loves you and  listen to what comes to your heart/head, write it down, you will blush!

Your Heavenly Father IS interested

I write because it helps me, it’s kind of like free therapy! I connect with my Heavenly Father by writing, so I LOVE it with my whole heart! Sometimes it is good to share, hoping maybe it will help someone like you! But other times it is just for me, to work through the thoughts in my head!

If you don’t journal, I suggest you try it. I just scribble out all the things in my head like I am writing to God, sometimes I go on and on, but the good thing is, my Heavenly Father is interested! The Bible says I am the apple of His eye! AND so are YOU!

I use to send Him emails and text messages too, especially when I was desperate for Him and felt He was far.

The Bible says in Deuteronomy 31:6 that He will never leave us nor forsake us.

I know this, but sometimes my “feelings” make me “think” He is far from me.

It is just not true!

{Warning} this might sound weird! :) One time I put GOD in my phone contacts and then typed my own phone number in there, so I could just shoot off a text to Him, whenever.  I just had to remind myself how accessible He really was to me.

I also use to “email” Him, when I would get upset. I would basically email myself, but talk to God! {call me crazy, but it helped me to remember the One who loves me and cares about me the MOST}

There is SOMETHING about getting “it” out of your head and into God’s hands. It is prayer, it just looks a little different than we traditionally think!

The Bible also says “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you”!

This is my favorite verse because it reminds me of my part of the communication.

This past week, I was “feeling” far from God and then just at the right time, someone pointed me back to scripture, basically instead of listening to me complain about feeling far from God, he just text me 3 books of the Bible.

At first I thought “does he want me to read these, right now?” and well the answer was YES.  He knew the only thing that would help was God and the best way to seek God is to read what He says.

God’s Word is living and active and it is our daily bread! No wonder I felt far from God, I didn’t feel like reading my Bible, but after I did what my friend suggested, I felt better, I felt more in tune with my Heavenly Father.

He is our Father in Heaven, He wants to spend time with us! Why do I forget?
