Watch What You're Watching

If you’re reading this post, it’s time to go to another level in your walk with the Lord. Yep, it’s time. You’ve probably already been sensing it in your spirit. God wants to do more with you. He’s got a good plan for your life. But with that being said, you’re going to have to let go of some things to become more effective for the kingdom of God. The Lord wants to take you higher. However, for this next level, you’re going to need to examine yourself and really watch what you’re watching girlfriend.

Have you ever heard, “The greater the call, the greater the sacrifice”? It’s true! The Bible tells us in Luke 12:48, “…Much is required from those to whom much is given, and much more is required from those to whom much more is given.” If God has given you much in regards to helping build His kingdom in these last days, then holiness is a necessary requirement for your calling. No doubt, God calls all of us to be holy. The Lord tells us, “Be ye holy, for I am holy.” Yet, in our modern day churches today, many are missing this one (especially those who are called to do great things for Him).

There are so many worldly influences around us and a lot of it stems from television. Now before I go on, let me say that I do watch TV. I had to mention that, just in case your mind wandered there. However, I’m very mindful of what I set my eyes upon, and you should as well. A Scripture that hit me several years ago was Psalm 101:3, “I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.” The New Living Translation puts it this way, “I will refuse to look at anything vile or vulgar. I hate all crooked dealings; I will have nothing to do with them.”

When I read this Scripture, it did something to me! It began to change my heart on the inside as it related to what I watched on television. I actually became more mindful and aware of what I watched and what I allowed myself or my kids to indulge in. There are so many hidden and blatant messages in movies, commercials, cartoons, reality shows, award shows, and music videos in regards to sexual immorality and violence today, that we really need to pay attention and take inventory of what we’re allowing in our spirit.

Point of fact: If we’re not careful of what we’re watching or consuming, it can very well become active in our lives. Think about it. If you’re watching horror movies (which I loved many years ago) or violent movies or TV shows, it can pump fear. But the Bible tells us in 2 Timothy 1:7, “For God hath not given us a spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” Soooo where did that spirit come from? On another note, let’s look at music videos and Rated R films? What is that about? Most times, it’s vile, vulgar, crooked, or provocative, and if we continue to be consumed with it, we could find ourselves engrossed in some of the same sins. Matthew 6:22 says, “Your eye is a lamp for your body. A pure eye lets sunshine into your soul. But an evil eye shuts out the light and plunges you into darkness. If the light you think you have is really darkness, how deep that darkness will also be.” (NLT)

Listen sis, Satan is against God and against all who love and live for Him. He is not our friend. So why are we playing with him? Just as surely as you have power over the remote control, you also have the power of Christ working within you to do what pleases Him…even as it relates to what you are watching on television these days. I’m not saying throw your TV away. I’m certainly not. But what I am saying is that you need to be very mindful of what you’re watching, so that it does not slowly mold you into what God does not want you to become. Remember the enemy is very subtle in his approach.

There are so many good movies out there that you and I (and our families) can watch in peace. Personally, I’ve developed a Christian movie library with over 200 films that I love to watch (see www.christianmovies.com or your local Family Christian or LifeWay Bookstores). Not only that, but there are also safeguards as well that can protect us. The Word of God is the first safeguard. But there is also another one that I want to recommend to you today, and it’s called “Clear Play” (for more info, visit www.clearplay.com). It’s a DVD player that eliminates and filters through movies with cursing, sexual scenes, violence, blasphemy…you name it. I love it!

The key here is to be mindful of what we’re doing in our everyday lives and behind closed doors as it relates to what we’re consuming on television. Because if we’re not careful, what we do behind closed doors will eventually come into the light some way, form, or fashion. So be careful, be effective, and watch what you’re watching.

Remember, Jesus is coming back soon! And those who endure unto the end shall be saved. So let’s get ready from the Inside Out!
