{Freebie} 10 Bible Verses on the Joy of God’s Presence

There’s a disconnect between my head and my heart.

Sure, I know that time with God is always time well spent.

I know that opening the Bible and filling myself with His Truth transforms my life.

know that memorizing His Word is sure-footed way to keep my heart from sin.

I know that He always rewards those who seek Him with more of Himself.

But sometimes, if I’m being really really honest with you, I don’t want to spend time in His presence. Sometimes I’d rather scroll through my Facebook feed than leaf through the Bible, with the ten minutes I have to spare before my baby wakes up.

When Your Heart Deceives You

The sad reality, dear sisters, is that our hearts are bent on distancing us from God. I’d like to think that I’m a good-hearted person, but God tells me that my heart is deceitful and wicked, and boy, do I know it! As the hymn writer penned so eloquently: “Prone to wander, Lord I feel it, Prone to leave the God I love.” This side of eternity, our hearts will wander.

So what’s a girl to do?

We take up the sword of Truth, sisters.

When our hearts wander, when don’t desire God, when we’d much rather lounge in front of DWTS than dance with our King… we turn our hearts toward what we know to be true, even when we don’t feel it.

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
Hebrews 4:12

And it can bring us home.

Preaching Truth to Our Hearts

Today, I’d like to offer you a sword-sharpener: a pack of memory verses on the joy of God’s presence that have helped my heart turn back toward Him.

These are promises that awaken within me a desire to seek Him when I don’t feel like it. They are words that make my heart beat just a little faster, They are the lifeline that fill my burning lungs with oxygen from the Breath of Life Himself as they lead me in His presence.

And dear ones, even when our hearts don’t believe, we still preach it to ourselves, that in His presence there is fullness of joy. Always. Every time. Without fail.

This printable will be free only October 29-November 4, but it will always be available in our shop.

Day 29 Challenge: Download the “Joy in God” Scripture memory card set and begin to memorize Truth that will guide your heart toward God when you have no desire to be with Him.

Father, you know my heart better than I know myself. Forgive me for wandering from You, for seeking greener pastures elsewhere. Truly, in Your presence are pleasures forevermore. Help me to memorize Truth and bring it to mind when I’m tempted to stay far from You. Bring me home, Lord.

This is the 29th post in the series, “Abiding in Christ–when reading the Bible isn’t an option.” Check out all the posts here.
