I think Billy West is a -very- talented voice actor to do this and Fry and make me not realize at all that it was him.

Incredibly brilliant, talented, charming and handsome space captain - YES.
Good role model? Hmmm, not so sure, his private life certainly is questionable.
One of the greatest characters ever created. Years later, you'll still hear Dh and I yell out random Zap Brannigan sayings.

He is quite a character. I started out watching the show primarily as a Bender Bending Rodriguez fan and am still quite fond of him, but I've become more impressed with Zap, though he's only an occasional character.
I sometimes wonder how he became so successful and adored when he now seems to fail in all areas of life. I guess personality can go a long way.
Like you say, he does say some funny things and is very quotable. If we mentioned some of his funniest lines, we might be frowned upon by some here (anyone remember the pathetic pick-up lines he encouraged Kif to use?), but perhaps we could share some of our favorite quotes outside of that particular area.
