Hi all~

About 4 years ago, I decided to start believing in Jesus and gave my life to him in a prayer with some other people, which you recoginzed he was our savior and needed to save us from our sins, which we will always be sinful.

Now what I don't get it, what are we supposed to do throughout our life? I don't get it, is it just an on going thing where we go to a church and worship and be with other followers or, is that all there is to it? It doesn't feel like it. It feels like there is more we need to be doing or something.

So recently I haven't really been doing much towards God, I think about him often and occasionally, but not as into reading the bible as I was. Everybody says you just keep on asking for help from reading the bible and your just supposed to understand and know what to do after you do that?

Basically what is a follower have to do, or ought to do with his decision to follow Christ?

In THIS POST I described (as did others) that the love of God should be what motivates us. What should you do? First, read your bible. If you already are, excellent. Continue to do so. But don't read it alone. You will have questions, and having someone there that can answer them is a big help.
Second, seek a church where He can use you. When you're looking for a body of believers where you can serve, do so with prayer. God will not steer you wrong.
Third, once you find a church where you can serve, look for a way to serve. Once again, do so with prayer. God has brought you this far. He didn't do so to let you fail.

All this time, keep reading the bible. You'll find yourself going to the same scripture over and over sometimes. It's okay. There's always something new to learn in God's word.

Agreeing with the all advice armydude gave you.

When you read your Bible ask Him to help you understand. He will hellp you learn what He wants you to learn each day. Also a Bible study is a good place to be able to ask questions.

He wants us to spend time with Him. Talk with Him, see His work when you look up at the big beautful sky, or a little flower, and tell Him thank You. Feel his joy filling you as you learn how to love and forgive in His power.

God Bless.

You've really answered your own question. You've described yourself as a "follower". What does it mean to follow someone, NightJay? What do you do in order to follow?

1. You have to know WHO you're following. That means you need to be able to identify this person---what do they look like, what do they do, etc.

2. You have to know YOURSELF. Do you see yourself as a sinful person who needs forgiveness and desires a relationship with God? Is that the decision you made?

3. You have to know WHY you're following. Why did you decide to follow Jesus? Do you see Jesus as the Only One Who can lead you to where you want to go?

4. And you have to know WHERE you want to be. If Jesus is the One who you want to know and follow, be with, then you choose to get to know Him. And that is done primarily through the word of God and through fellowship with others who are also following Him.

Bless you as you think through some of these thoughts and questions. Answer them truthfully and tell Jesus your answers. As well as your questions. He will answer! If you seek Him, He will be found!

The posts here have been exemplory in advice and guidance for you.

I would like to say just a sentence or two about the above paragraph. The reason is that I don't want you to get discouraged when you feel that you don't live up to a self-imposed perfect ideal.

Jessus saved us from the wrath of God (not our sins). We will continue to sin in some fashion due to our very nature. But rejoice in your salvation and give praises to God that you are saved from His wrath. This is not a license to sin, but a freedom to rejoice in the joy of your salvation.

I know that helps me sometimes to be more obedient to His word, to be more gracious to my neighbor and to love my enemies.

Welcome to the family!

Jesus is 'about' obedience to the Father. Confess-“[His message] is near you, in your mouth and in your heart"--that is, the word of faith which we are preaching that if you confess [obedience to] Jesus as Lord with your mouth and you will be saved. For with the heart a person believes resulting in righteousness and with his mouth he confesses resulting in [obedience].” Romans 10:8-10

In John the Lord tells us in chapter 13

14Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another's feet. 15I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. 16I tell you the truth, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. 17Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.

And John 15

9"As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. 10If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father's commands and remain in his love. 11I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. 12My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.

and in Luke 6

35But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. 36Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

These are just some of the many things we should do as Christians.

We need to draw closer to him, and live a life according to the example he gave us.

Take care, and God bless.

Well the bible is a great place to start. After 10 years of reading it, i now know i have so much more to learn. I now know it will take the rest of my life, i'm 39, and even then they'll just be so much i won't know in this life. Also i use to think the bible was boring! That was partly the translation that i couldn't understand and partly my life and thinking being so unchristian/ biblical.
As for church attendance i'm not very good - and nor are the churches i've attended. I can understand meeting with christian friends daily and services most days. But this once a week service and see you next sunday - does nothing for me. Join the church groups, if you are lucky enough to have them. Bible study especially. Go to the coffee morning/ lunch. Invite a church member round, or speak to someone in authority about your concerns.

Lastly i wish i met more people like you. You can see something is wrong and WANT TO change it. Many keep going to church once a week for decades, never lift a bible and never grow beyond their baptism. Personal message me if you'd like to talk more. Love BibleBased.

Scripture says that salvation is about being born again or knowing the truth and as a result being set free from the drudgery and meaningless of life. Now what this means in practical terms is we are no longer bound by the futile and pointless endevours of men. In fact, Christ talked about abundant life or life in the fullest sense. Hence, love, passion and energy are lost when men do not have a clear vision of themselves in Christ and I think many of us still see ourselves as being other than Christ.

Now having been set free by knowing the truth in Christ He has transformed my mind to see the compassion Christ has for others and I see too how He may also set them free from their addictions and fears. If you want to get a clear picture of what Christ is all about go to one of the poorist countries in the world and hold a starving child in your arms look at all their pain and suffering and see what Christ would have you do. Yes it will make you angry but the vision of how Chrst in you and others can transform their lives will make you want to pour out your life as a living sacrifice for Christ.

As scripture says;

Matthew 9:35-38
35 Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. 36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. 38 Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field."

Thanks for the support here. Following Jesus is a matter of having fellowship with others and sharing his gospel and bringing it to others. But one must want to do this in order to follow him and go with others.

To Paraphrase, it's about - praying, reading the bible, asking God to reveal his word to you, becuase God always knows our thoughts and what were going to do before we do it and that is even hard to think about. Yeah yesterday somebody was talking about how their life didn't add up in a sense and I had a small desire to talk to him about Jesus, I mentioned his name but he didn't really seem interested, so I just left it as that, because we have to let people want to hear and listen if were ever going to be able to bring the good news to them.

So yes, another thing is I need to join a church, just haven't found the right one yet, I haven't really been looking all to much though, hopefully someday I can...but it's our faith in Christ by grace we are saved through Christ (Grace: meaning unmerrited Favor) nothing we earned or we can do. know the verse, but someitmes you don't always get it, how it's supposed to be.

I appreciate the help, God bless..

Here's my "two cents worth".

I think everyone has shared good comments, but I would like to add a thought for you to consider.

Since Jesus is the way to eternal life and since He is God's Son who lived on this earth, wouldn't it be worth while to study His life and teachings and learn more about Him?

I personally believe that Jesus is more than a mere Savior. He is a role model as well. He has been through everything that you and I have been through. He has shown us how to fight Satan's temptations and win. He is the power inside of us (in the form of the Holy Spirit) that gives us victory over sin.

Among the praying, worshipping, reading the Bible and spending time with other Christians, how about spending some special time just with Jesus?

God bless you in your walk with Him.

You ask some good basic questions nightjay. First you do need to study God 's word. I have been a christian for nearly 30 some years and sometimes I have a lack of desire to study the word. When that happens I ask God to help my desire and to showme something I did not know or help me to understand something I didn't. Also it is helpful to join a bible study group and other christian such as the men's or women's fellowship. I did not catch if you were a male or female so I included both. Also ask God to direct you to a good bible based church. As to what to do with your life, to paraphrase scripture He has thoughts of you as the grains of sand thougts of good and not of evil. Toward an expected purpose. Seek an you shall find knock and it shall be opened. If you ask God what he wants you to do he will tell you.
