When you are experiencing trials / adversity of any kind - which of the above Biblical principles do you adhere to and what difference have any/or each made in your situation by doing so? e.g. When we look out for the concerns of others (as taught in God's Word) whether by praying, encouraging or other practical means, this takes our focus off ourselves and puts it on God's Word. We are therefore obeying Matthew 6:33 in that we are seeking first God's Kingdom and His righteousness...... when we put God first and obey His Word - He meets our needs and that includes helping us in times of trial. There is also a very practical side to looking out for the concerns of others in that it often helps us to put our own problems in perspective whilst at the same time helping others. God's Biblical principles are good.

Most of the above apply depending on circumstances. The main one is to BELIEVE that He is with you always, to the end of time.

AMEN mvic and thank you for your post but what difference does adhering to any of the above actually make if we are experiencing trials / adversity? The purpose of the poll is to make us think about how each of the above Biblical principles actually help us. When we know what the Bible teaches and put it into practice we are better able to believe / trust as you so rightly mention but how has each or any of the above helped you face adversity or trials?

Prayer - I actively get to talk to my Father in heaven and ask him WHY I might be going through this, what I should do concerning it or if it's dire, if it could be taken away. Bible study / meditation on God's Word - After prayer, the Holy Spirit can actively show me in Scripture what I can do or why I might be going through the trial or adversity. It's happened many times before and I'm fully convinced that they were from God. Fasting - I do it as Jesus said there were somethings only to be gotten rid of by prayer and fasting. Praise God for what He has done - Who am I to complain as I still have my life and I'm still able to wake up every day and worship him freely in this country. Worship God for Who He is - I'd do this anyways, and it's a fantastic thing to take my mind off the problem too. Confess God's Word/promises with your mouth - I can claim them and rest assured as I know my Father's faithful. Pray God's promises - Specifically saying them to Him is awesome confirmation. Look out for the concerns of others (including praying for others) - It lets you know that you're not the only one being refined by fire and that I'm to stand and take on the burdens of my brothers. Forgive any who have wronged you - Simple. I'm told to and it's not rot in my bones. Confess known sin in your life - I can't be accused if I acknowledge it freely and repent. Seek God to find out what He wants to teach you in your experience - Oh, I'm always on the lookout for this. It's not what I want but what God wants me to learn from an experience. Submit to God in your circumstances - I do my best to be obedient and there's certainly blessings in it. Blessing that I can pass on to others. That's just what I get from each thing. :O

I do most of the above, and the difference it makes is that the trials are easier to bear, I am more patient, more able to witness to othres by example because He is always faithful to give me the strength I need. All the ways mentioned above are more for me to remind myself of His faithfulness and that I need to trust Him completely.

I realize that i am under new management, so that there are going to be some remodeling going on in my heart. This the part of regeneration, turning to the Lord away from the darkness. Jesus said that we are being pruned so that we can be more fruitful, so in doing some pruning we will be shown what has to be changed in our lives, and i sometimes want to hold on to some things that are a part of me, but only in the flesh, and now through the Holy spirit that part no longer holds any value to me in my learning to be new natured. I am on the vine, and i am a sheep who has learned to hear his voice, and i do count it all joy when the Lord is showing me who he is. Because i am in Jesus hands and he's in the father's hands.

Trusting God's Word to be true, and that He is watching over His Word to perform it. Trials and temptation will come, if we are serving Him; we will overcome and be better for it. Thanks RC

I guess I would have to go with submit to God... I think it all comes down to the lessons that we learn from Job... The Lord gives and the Lord take's away... blessed be the name of the Lord. We must hold to our faith in Him for whoever endures to the end shall be saved. Do not let trials or failures affect your faith for He is bigger than anything and His atonement is enough, you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you... you can prosper or suffer loss, you can be in physical comfort or in need, free or in chains, and still be safe in Him. We all need to learn to hold to our faith for these are perilous times and there are times coming for Christians that we never imagined. Even as Stephen looked in the face of death... he saw Christ and rejoiced. J

I do all of the things listed. However, the bottom line is that I submit to God in all circumstances. I have lived a life with MUCH trial and tribulation. Romans 12:12 Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing steadfastly in prayer. I pray to the Lord constantly; I study the Bible, etc. I praise Him for all my blessings. I know He has a plan for me. No matter what happens to me, no matter what I am going through, He is working through me. I submit to Him with joy, knowing that He is in control, and I am His instrument. Romans 8:28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purposes. I know that I am never alone, that the Lord is with me throughout everything I endure. I have no need to be afraid. I have seen, time & time again, His works in my life. Joshua 1:9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 "...give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." All my faith and hope are in Him.

Sorry it's long and as with the poll, it's in no particular order: Helps during trials/adversity: Prayer is my lifeline with God – it is how I communicate with Him and tell Him all my thoughts and cares. He is my best Friend and speaking to Him in prayer is how I commune with Him. It is good to be able to speak to God at any time of the day or night and speak to Him about anything. I could not - nor do I want to imagine not being able to do so in times of adversity/ trial! Bible study / meditation on God’s Word – is how I learn about God’s love, goodness, mercy; what He wants me to do; what He wants me to avoid and so much more besides - everything I need to know about God is contained in His Word which is my most precious book. Often when I am going through a difficult time, the Holy Spirit brings a particular text from His Word to mind and this is a great encouragement during times of adversity/trial. I have found that memorizing Scripture verses is indeed invaluable! Fasting – is something I adhere to on occasions and for specific purposes. It is something which God has blessed during times of adversity/trial and He has brought clarity into situations which seemed so unclear as a result of this practice; also – I have experienced chains of injustice being broken. Praising God for what He has done (also what He will yet do) is something which not only pleases God but strengthens my inner person when I am going through trials. A good praise CD and a sing along when you are feeling down helps to resist the old enemy I have found! Worshiping God for who He is – is attributing the very attributes of God to Him and Him alone and there is something about confessing God’s great attributes which brings glory to God and strengthens my soul. Confessing God’s Word / Promises – once again the practice of doing this is not to remind God what His Word says (because God knows it better than I ever will – He IS the Word) but it is a way of confessing to God that I believe He is an Almighty and faithful God. Also speaking God’s Word out loud has a supernatural way of building faith. God’s Word says, “Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God” (some versions of the Bible say ……” hearing by the Word of Christ” but same difference because Jesus Christ is the Word made flesh). Watching out for the concerns of others – this helps fulfil Matthew 6:33 “seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto you…” God helps those who help others. Also, helping others takes my focus off myself and shifts my thoughts onto obeying God’s Word by helping others. Sometimes it is good to see that we are not the only ones going through trials and difficulties and our own problems become less significant when we discover we are not the only ones hurting. There is a lesson in this. Forgive anyone who has wronged you – this may benefit the other person but it also benefits me too because forgiveness frees me from destructive influences and from giving the devil a foothold in my life whereby he can accuse me. When I choose not to forgive – I am not doing myself any favours because it only compounds my problems/trials because God hides His face from me when I disobey Him. It is not nice to have God's peace far removed! Confess known sin in your life – when I try to cover up or ignore my sin I will not prosper! This only compounds any problems I may have when I try to hide/ignore sin in my life –I am really fooling and harming myself by allowing a foothold for the devil! Seek to find out what God wants to teach you in any trial/difficult situation – trials and difficulties, etc can break us down or build us up in our faith. It’s up to us to decide which it’s going to be. If we want the experience to refine us as Christians – we should seek God and be willing for Him to show us what He wants to teach us. Submit to God – no matter what situations we may face which may be unpleasant for whatever length of time – God wants to make us more Christ-like and if we submit to Him and accept the good and the bad without grumbling and complaining – God will work all things together for good in our lives and He will be glorified. The Children of Israel grumbled and complained about their lot in the desert and as a result they went around in circles for over 40 years and also missed God’s best for them by forfeiting entering the Promised Land!
