What do you believe helps our faith grow?

Please give an explanation to your answer (with Scripture backing if possible).

Appreciated.

'Tribulation[only]increases patience' but only obedience to His vulnerability creates eternal faith.

James 1:2-"Count it all joy, my brethren, when you meet various trials, 3 for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. 4 And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives to all men generously and without reproaching, and it will be given him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For that person must not suppose that a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways, will receive anything from the Lord."

2Corithians 12:7,9,10 "Because of the surpassing greatness of [His] revelation, there was given me a limitation to keep me from exalting myself! For He has said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you for My power is refined in weakness." Most gladly then, I will glory in my weakness so that the power of Christ may contrast in me. Therefore, I can be content with my lack, my insult, distresses and difficulties for Christ's sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong."

I voted other but meant both. Trials propel us to a greater dependence and love for Jesus and His word then speaks in greater and greater ways to our souls. So both are necessary to grow me into His likeness. It is what His word says and what has been borne in my experience as well.

I voted other. Life grows our faith. we don't have to necessarily experience trials to grow our faith. Our faith can grow from the simplest little prayers being answered, like asking for the presentation of sandollars (which really happened) or even thinking about something and God provides the solution without even praying about it (happens a lot to me and never ceases to amaze me). IOW, Him granting our heart's desires.

Trials can make or break someone's faith. i suppose if they break it, then they didn't have it to begin with.

Trust grows our faith, wisdom, knowledge, understanding-In essence the leading of the HS.

Don't know that I explained that well

God grows our faith. He authors it. Manages it. Grows it.

Hearing the Word of God, hearing of the wonderous works of God from Scripture and the testamonies of other folks, and

(Jud 1:20) But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,

Thanks

God's Word speaks about a wise man who builds his house upon the rock and when the storm came - his house withstood the storm. Unlike another builder who builds his house upon the sand. When the storm came, his house was blown down and washed away. This parable encourages us to build our lives, hopes and confidence in the Word of God so that when the storms of life come along - we will not be moved. We will remain firm in our faith and not shaken and knocked down by our circumstances!

Trials are a great opportunity to test our faith and uncover what we are building our lives upon.

God's Word teaches:

- Romans 10:17: "Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God." (listening to the Word of God)
- Judges 1:20: "But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost" (praying according to the Holy Spirit's teaching and leading)
- Revelation 12:11: "They overcame by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony......" (being redeemed by the blood of Jesus from sin and by our testimony)

I chose other.

What causes my faith in God to grow is answered prayer, and out-of-the ordinary coincidences that happen for my own good.

The whole she-bang!

1)reading/studying Gods Word
2)trying our bestest to live the -"Christ" way
3)Letting people - "see", us doing #2 (and not in a hypocritic way)
4)sharing Gods Word
5) and so on

The bible only mentions one thing in text that I can think of that grows faith, and that is hearing the Word of God, it actually means that in the original text as well, that HEARING the Word grows faith, not even reading it, or saying it, but actually hearing it, so someone needs to say it, probably us, we speak it and our ears hear it.

dear munchekin. if you depend on this, you are in trouble, because often our prayers can look like they are not answered and nothing is moving in that department.

also depending on coincidences, these can be the actual answers themselve but your faith should not depend on these because they weakne your faith, youshould only dependon what God has promised toy ou, on his word of promise to you alone, depend on this which is Gods word, it is unchanging and you can step out on it even in the middle of the worst storm or whatever, and remain safe. etc.

That's how the Bible says faith COMES, not how faith GROWS.

Is there a difference between coming and growing?

Good point and good question also.

'Growing' makes me think of something pushing up the way (e.g. like a seed pushing it's way through the earth).
'Coming' makes me think of something moving from one position to another (e.g. like a little child hearing their parent's voice and stepping out/moving in the direction of that voice).

I guess faith is a bit like the latter, i.e. our Heavenly Father calls us to trust Him and glorify Him and listening to His Word encourages us to step out in the very direction of God.

I also wonder how deaf people come to faith, if faith ONLY comes by hearing.

Another good question! Can't imagine but God knows the answer to that one.

Good question to ponder.

Rom. 12:3 For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one measure of faith.
Rom. 10:19 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Jude 20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit.
Heb. 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Heb. 12:2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith...

Faith comes from God. Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith.
I think God uses different ways to increase our faith: answered prayers, praying in the Spirit, testimonies of others, hearing and reading the Word, etc.

As far as deaf people hearing the Word , they don't use their natural ears anyway...neither do we
I Cor. 2:10 But God has revealed them to us throught His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.
I Cor. 2:11 For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God.
I Cor. 2:12 Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.
I Cor. 2:13 These things we also speak, not in words which man's wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
I Cor. 2:14 But the natural man does not receie the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

We can't understand the things of God with our natural minds. The Spirit of God in us gives understanding to our spirit.
Have you ever read or heard a verse over and over, then one day, you're like "oh, I get it! I understand!".

When we have an understanding of what the Word of God is saying to us, our faith is increased, we are able to stand, believing God. When the test, trials and tribulations come, we will be like the one who built his house upon the rock. And we can be like Abraham...
Rom 4:18 who, contrary to hope, in hope believed, so that he became the father of many nations, according to what was spoken, "So shall your descendants be."
Rom. 4:19 And not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah's womb.
Rom 4:20 He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God,
Rom. 4:21 and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform.

I haven't really given it thought but just off the top of my head.

Romans 10:17 - Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.

Basically study his word and you will be able to hear from God, with the security of knowing that you can hear from God you now have faith. Trials come and test our ability to stay on track and ability to hear from God in how to handle the situation. Sometimes we fail sometimes we succeed the more word we have the more able we are to have faith to deal with trials. Trials and hearing (ie knowing the word of God ) are connected. Trials won't give you faith ( God clearly states that comes by knowing his word which lead to being able to hear him which will instill faith) Trials give us opportunities to increase our word thereby increasing our hearing and so our faith. Most people concentrate on the hearing and faith part of that scripture but the true key is knowing Gods word.
