What if you were THE richest person in the world, next to your dad, and you could do absolutely anything that you wanted to do? One day your dad tells you... SON! In a minute, I need you to leave it all behind, and you know the reason why, and live for awhile without any resources and then die a very painful death.

This scenario cannot compare to the life of Christ but I was simply trying to grasp the enormity of what God did for us.

Put yourself in Jesus' place and try to imagine what He did for us.

Why did He?

Agape Love.

He also was one with the Father which is something we can't really grasp. So the Father telling Him to come was like Him telling Himself to come.

Why did He?

That's a question I have asked myself many times.
Why would He die for those who hated Him, for those who mocked Him....for those who drove the nails?

I wouldn't have.

I don't know the why's, but every day I am thankful that He did.

I can't even begin to truly comprehend WHY, but I think partly so that God's Will be done. He did it in obedience to God's perfect will.

Mark 14:36
36"Abba,Father," he said, "everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will."

Being God could He do anything else?

As much as His love amazes us, its His final judgement that truly amazes me. Think of that.

God loves us all with all His heart, yet for His pure charactor He must condemn...many. All of these He loves but, the standard is set. He must condemn the majority of His creation.

To me, that is true strength of charactor. In this day of permissiveness, God sets the only standard worth having.

That....is true love.

I guess when I relate this topic to me as father and think about my kids, I would surely die for them but we know that this is not all that Jesus did for us. I can't imagine how difficult is was for Him to not have the comforts that we have, to know that everything that He said had to be right, that He must resist all temptation in thought and in action, and that He knew that He would ultimately be put to death. I would have been a basket case.

When I think about these things and all that God created and even the fact that I am experiencing this gift of life, it amazes me that so many cannot see the same things.

Why am I contemplating these things? Why am I seeking Him? Why do so many others care less? It breaks my heart!

The word 'inscrutable' comes to mind.

Our puny minds cannot comprehend this LOVE.

The only response is THANK YOU, JESUS.

Amen Walker,
It breaks my heart thinking about it too...

Why did he?

I think because He was the only one who could do it...
And the thanks He gets make me cry...
And His Patience makes me wonder~ How much longer?

As the song says:
quote:

I'm forgiven,
because You were forsaken.
I'm accepted,
You were condemned. ...

(Please forgive me, I remember songs better than authors.)

Yes I have asked myself why did He believe me to be "that" worthy.....

Obedience to the Father. 1 John 4:10-"In this is love not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the expiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us we also ought to love one another. 12 No man has ever seen God[however] if we love one another God abides in us and his love is perfected in us."

Isaiah 53:4-"Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that made us whole, and with his stripes we are healed."

This question always takes me further to... did He create only humans and if so why? He could create multitudes of beings that we will not be aware of until we see Him. Yet, Christ came and died only for us.

For all we know, God is constantly doing things in dimensions beyond our comprehension.

It is His perogative and I am extremely excited about learning one day all that God has done. He is after all, awesome!

I don't really know. Just like Walker, I can do a lot of sacrifice for my child, even to the point of death. Perhaps, that love that we have for our children, as imperfect as it is, shows a glimpsed of the Father's love for us. Perhaps, through that, God designed us to experience sacrificial love for those people whom we "created", so that we can have grasp how God loves us as His children.

Perhaps, we're the only created beings that bears the image of God.

I don't know. Somehow, I know it's all about Him, and not about me. Just like if I were to die for my child, it would have nothing to do with her, but everything to do with who I am and the depth of my love for her.

I thought about this... "all about Him" when I started this thread and agree. However, I thought about a supreme being who took on the form of man and it seems to be all about us. I cannot imagine a greater sacrifice or love. There is nothing to compare this to though we try.

Being fully human, the answer is YES! So Jesus willfully chose to love us first so we can willfully love Him.

He made Himself nothing for us, I definitely didn't deserve it.

The only thing I can thing of is love. Love, real love must be so AMAZING. It must be just so awesome. I know I can't grasp it all. But I have loved one enough to die for them. The bible tells us that no greater love as anyone, than that he gives his life for his friends. That's awesome love. Because while we were yet in sin, and enemies of the Cross . . . God called us friend.
