Can anyone offer an opinion pro or con on the Thompson Chain Reference bible?

I recently had someone recommend it to me as a very good study tool, but I am not really familiar with it. I reviewed material on their WEB site and it sounded pretty good.

The Thomson Chain Reference Bible is a really good Bible study tool.

It has over 100,000 topical issues
Over 8,000 chain topics
Revised Concordance
16 pages of coloured maps
75 unique study features as well as an Archaeoligical supplement.

It is great for studying themes throughout the Bible also.

I highly recommed this Bible. It is one of my favourites.

I love it.

A study bible is however only good if it's used!

This is an excellent Bible study tool. Naturally, I would recommend the KJV.

The Thompson Chain is a good study tool.
It does lack some of the explanations offered in other study bibles.
I really like the NIV Study Bible. I also like the Quest Study Bible. It offers insight to words (greek, hebrew) and some more specific references.
I have a TCR and I like it. It's ONE of the MANY tools I use to read and study.

This group, Christianity.com has a great section for BIBLE study. You have access to multiple versions of the scripture to aid in understanding and study. You can use them and not have to purchase so many versions.
For offline study the Thompson Chain reference is good, however, and I say this about all study BIBLES, research all references and quotes to insure they are following the correct topic because sometimes they will take you off course. I think the key is to research and study seeking the help mof the HOLY SPIRIT while engaging the word of GOD.

I posted this in another thread:

For me, the stregnth of the Thompson Chain is that locating scripture is very easy. If you know a word in a verse, you can usually flip to the index and find the scripture or the concordance is pretty good as well. Because so many of the English words have different meanings in the origial languages, this bible will show you most of the scriptures in which the word occurs but you must be mindful of this to ensure that you are using the context correctly. Another thing I love about this bible is the self pronouncing text and there are no little reference letters in the text. This makes it smooth to read and memorize from.
There are lots of charts in the back that are helpful, although I don't take the time to use them often. For instance, the travels of Moses are charted on a map complete with scriptures...very cool.

This is my favorite.

It is a great reference Bible. However, it is not a devotional Bible, or what many would deem a study Bible (no foot notes explaining scripture from a particular point of view).

I have it in NIV, and have used it for years. I highly recommend it. You have to learn to use all of the features, but it is well worth it.
