Some Christian Counselors are really recommending this counseling system.

Some theologians and apologists are against it.

CRI gave them a clean bill of health.

Has anyone been involved with this method, and is it Biblically sound, or is in an imitation of Memory Recovery therapy, as some claim?

I have never received training nor researched it extensively.
Here is a general article with a good overview. http://www.religioustolerance.org/theophostic3.htm

Reading over the information and as a mental health professional I would have serious issues with that approach. Anyone going looking for something may well find something, something that isn't there. I believe that when there are issues of abuse and repressed memories, they will come to surface at the appropriate time, as God leads. No need for a prayer or counseling technique to go looking for things to go wrong.

I also would have trouble with the heavy attribution to demonic.

A positive focus is that of looking past and getting beyond deception but it leaves wide open prospects for anyone to be deceived. From what I just read, I would personally have no interest in being "trained" in TPM.

Another concern I would have, for those that are trained in TPM, they are "not counselors" and there can be all sorts of serious mental health issues that may not be recognized or attended to. If someone who is manic partakes in such a setting, I can see all sorts of weird things coming up. If someone was psychotic, this clearly wouldn't be helpful.

Um, not exactly.

CRI does have concerns about several peripheral issues regarding TPM, but we have been favorably impressed by Smith’s openness to constructive criticism and change.

We caution Christians who practice or receive TPM to be discerning about Smith’s teachings on the sin nature, sanctification, and satanic ritual abuse, and to be aware that, despite major improvements, there are still several aspects of Smith’s teaching on spiritual warfare that CRI does not endorse.
