With the Obama sensation that’s sweeping the nation, how do you handle friends/family members who are Obama supporters? Are politics off the table or do you guys engage in verbal wrestling? Do you find yourself having to explain why you do not support Obama? No, not regarding the issues or values, but rather the deep reasons you have to unearth after a journey of deep introspection… With most of my friends, after months of very heated exchanges, it’s come to “We agree to disagree. We’ll still be friends long after this election, no more politics.” The most severe diagnosis I’ve been given so far is PSHS (Pervasive Self Hate Syndrome) because I am black. I told a friend I’d be happy to support a black conservative; the reply was basically “I don’t buy it! Go deal with your issues” Are being proud of the historical aspect (an African American running for POTUS) and not supporting Obama mutually exclusive? Please keep the talk courteous (as you would with your loved ones at home)

It's sad that so many from the camp that claim to be "open-minded", tolerant and accepting.. are those often on the side of, "you're not voting for Obama?! You must have no soul!!"

I've got die-hard Democrat Union member relatives that I have gone at it with for years. I disagree with Democrats but what's so much worse is people who vote Democratic (or anything else) because they're told to!! I've forwarded them some stuff but haven't had any good conversations with them on it lately . . . which could be because we're all super busy and I've not seen them - but I also suspect that maybe they just know I'M RIGHT on this one and they're afraid I might GLOAT!

My dad is a die hard Democrat but he isn't too happy with Obama. He keeps saying to vote for "None of the Above!". However his sister, also a lifelong, die hard Democrat has not only switched parties but is telling everyone about it. My dad doesn't use a computer so he didn't get her email so I had the pleasure of informing him. He almost dropped the phone. Here is her email: I have been a Democrat for many years. My husband and I joined because this party worked for the working class-they don't anymore, so I lean more towards (Lou Dobbs) Independent voters. I was for Hillary, but the way she was treated was disgusting. As the wife of a former mayor of a SMALL town, who was also a decorated, wounded veteran of the Korean War, I saw first hand the responsibility a mayor has. So those that make fun of Sarah Payline's mayorship should stick a stock in it. I've worked with and for many politicians over the years. I've been inspired by a few: John Kennedy, Birch & Evan Bayh and respected many. But, when I heard Sarah "Baracuda's" speech, when Senator McCain presented her, it was as if a bolt of electricy ran through me!!! I knew that here was a woman, so like me, that was destined for greatness. John McCain is a hero and this combination is dyn-o-mite! As for OBama, he needs to get some glasses-neither McCain nor "Sarah" look a thing like Bush. They are rebels WITH a cause and this is one girl who is voting for the "McCain-Paylin" ticket, and nothing will change my mind. With eight grandchildren and seven eligible to vote, all but one are voting for this ticket, PLUS many of my friends are doing the same. As for the media's attack on Sarah: YOU BLEW IT!

Mmm, I don't really talk politics with my friends and family. I get it out of my system on the internet. ;) That being said, I HAVE noticed a trend in sites that have ratings, like YouTube and the like... Liberals seem to be really vindictive about ratings, since anyone who says anything pro-conservative or anti-Obama gets rated down, whereas people who say things pro-liberal or anti-McCain get rated up...

None of my family really talks much about politics, but i know most of them are Democrats. On my husbands side they are mostly all Republicans. The one i talk with the most about it is my uncle on my husbands side. Hes a HUGE Republican just like me and we talk about it alot and have some laughs. Im actually gonna buy him a "Anyone But Hillary" shirt off ebay i found. His nephew works for Norad and hes also a Republican and loves Bush and Cheney, since hes met them and works with them from time to time. Its really a cool thing - i love to talk politics and hes my outlet for it. lol
