ORIGINAL: Little_1 Why did the Jesus have to go back to Heaven so that the Holy Spirit could come? I believe it is because the Holy Spirit was indwelling Christ's earthly body. When He returned to the Father, He then sent The Spirit to indwell all who would accept Him. So that we who believe are now His body on earth. It is a difficult question, with no specific biblical answer that I know of. I would not assume that my answer is in any way the definitive one. Peace

ORIGINAL: Little_1 Why did the Jesus have to go back to Heaven so that the Holy Spirit could come? An interesting question. I think you are asking why the earthly Jesus did not just call down the Holy Spirit to enter into the disciples while He was amongst them physically. (sorry if my interpretation of your words is wrong!) My belief is that Jesus was born a man much like any other and as such always had the choice of sin and to refuse the will of God, right up to his physical death on the cross. At that point of voluntary death however, His willingness to sacrifice everything He had and to steer a perfect course of righteousness for the sake of humanity in the name of God Almighty, changed His status immeasurably. That was when He rejoined the Godhead and gained the authority to send the Holy Spirit. I know I'm going to incur the wrath of many for saying that. They will say that "Jesus was in the beginning with the Father and was always fully God" and such like. To which I wil say that the Son was with the Father in the beginning and the Son gave up everything (as is His custom) to become an ordinary man and thus save humanity from itself.

Very spiritual question and key to the purpose of salvation. I could expound on it but would simply give this answer. The Holy Spirit had to come in the name of Christ Jesus to fulfill life on earth as it was from the beginning through His human vessels. God loves man…His creation, but the enemy hates man because of God’s love to His children to rule the earth in His behalf. The hate from the enemy is because of the authority given to man on earth, hence sin and death were brought in by the devil to bring man under and steal his authority. Now, with judgment on sin and death settled by Christ Jesus for humankind, the restored authority to believers as heirs to the land (earth) is fulfill in life in the Holy Spirit and not outside. The whole purpose of the birth, death, resurrection and ascension of Christ Jesus bodily to heaven was to confirm that God the Father is in-charge of all things, both in heaven and on earth, by the power of His Holy Spirit. The release of the Holy Spirit to God’s children here on earth was the ultimate purpose of salvation. The death of Jesus for our sins was His love for us, but the release of the Holy Spirit is the fulfillment of our perfect fellowship with Him, which is the vital life, our power in and from God. God loves our fellowship. He would never compromise our relationship with Him, because of His love for us. The Holy Spirit is the “complete package of God will” on earth to those who would believe, which no other power or powers can withstand. There is more, but let us stop here. I love this question. I love you Holy Spirit. Please say that to yourself. That is fellowship with God in Christ Jesus…Amen vmodu.com

There is a difference between feeling the Holy Spirit and being prompted by such and being given the gift of the Holy Spirit... which is what Jesus did for the disciples. He gave them this gift that they migh thave the Holy Spirit with them always and have the companionship of the Holy Spirit throughout their lives. The Holy Spirit couldn't be given by just anyone, it had to be done by Jesus as he was the only one with the authority to do so, as stated by John The Baptist.

The underlying question here is what is the purpose of the Holy Spirit? God is the 'fountain-head' from which all things flow. Christ is is Son and partner, but what is the Holy Spirit? The phrase 'Father, Son and Holy Spirit' rolls right off our tongues, but we never really hear about the Spirit. One would think that it has as prominent a role as the other two, or at least a highly significant role to be list in that exclusive club. The Holy Spirit, is the essence of God as it spreads throughout all of God's creation. It is one of the three personages of God, (as water can be solid, liquid and gas). Each of the aspects of has its own purpose. In answer to the above question then is that, Christ had his mission which was limited. Despite his ability to do paltry miracles (compared to creating a universe) and having the authority of God, he was only the figurative conduit to God. Only through belief in Jesus can you enter the Kingdom, but the actual connection is established through the Spirit. “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” [Romans 8:14] In 1 Corinthians 2:11, we see that the Holy Spirit is all-knowing. In Psalm 139, we see that the Holy Spirit is everywhere. Jesus was a man, who opened the door to salvation, but the main working active conduit to God is through the Spirit. Jesus did his job, and then stepped aside to allow the Holy Spirit come into all that are willing. See my website www.GodQnA.com for other related Q & A ..
