I've noticed over the last few years that Disney has used Christian bands a lot for their movie music and music videos. I wonder if it is because they can't find any wholesome teen bands in the secular realm. But, I appreciate that they do this. It's nice to see Christian pop bands like Jump 5, Jonas Brothers, and Everlife admired by todays teens. Better than what's out in the secular world. Also, Miley/Hannah is a good example for the kids.

The only thing I don't like is that they pitch correct all of the bands and singers on Disney so badly that you can't tell what their voices really sound like.

Speaking of the Jonas Bros, I get a little worried about them. I was just reading in my 12 yr old daughter's magazine that they said they are "booked every sngle day for the next 2 yrs"! Wow, that's enuf to break anyone. I wonder if their parents are concerned about burn out. I think their dad is their manager, and he is also a pastor and involved with Christ For the Nations, I think he was one of the founders. But this phenominal success they have right now, can it be good for anyone? I wonder if it's a little over-the-top. I mean, they are touring all the time, are making 2 Disney channel TV shows, etc, etc. My dau is bummed b/c we don't have cable, so she can't watch their shows! But I predict someday soon, they will have to slow down a little, or be in for some serious problems.

I like the Jonas Brothers! I worry about all of the Disney stars to tell the truth....we don't want any more turning out like Brittany or Lindsey...so sad. Some of these kids start out well but.....

I'll be sooo glad when they finally come out with their new CD!!! My kid plays therir "JB" CD ALL the time, and she doesn't even play all of the songs, b/c some of them she doesn't like as well, so I get tired of hearing the same few songs over and over and over again! I kind of like their "Year 3000" video, I can see why that was a hit on Disney Channel.

And you have a point about the Disney stars. They really seem to overwork them, if you think about the history. They all start out as fresh faced, wholesome young people, and then get in over their heads, and then go down hill. Hmmm, wonder what the take is on all of that by the execs at Disney. Wonder if they have figured out that you can't work someone to death and expect quality out of them.

Isn't one of the Jonas diabetic or something? I can't recall if it's them.

I didn't know the "Jo Bros" were Christians!!! My 5 year old loves them and Miley. I have a post on here regarding her as a good example. But as mo said that Jessica Simpson and Britney had Christian backgrounds, too. I hope its real to them.

I'm a closet fan when it comes to "Hold On" (which in my mind had Christian overtones) and "Start all Over" with Miley...

Yes, Nick, the 15 yr old, is diabetic. And yes, they are Christians. If you go to their "official" web site, it doesn't state that directly, but if you read the FAQ's, there is a question posted to Joe, the 18 yr old, about the ring he wears. He answers that it is a purity ring that he wears b/c he made a promise to God and to himself that he would stay pure until marriage. I think they all have them, but the question was directed at Joe. If you do a Google search on the family, using the dad's name, you will come up with some interesting stuff. I put in the dad's name, Rev. Kevin Jonas, and came up with some stuff about the beginnings of the band, etc. Aparrently, their first CD, which was released thru Columbia, b4 they signed with Disney, had a statement about their faith on the cover. Something to the effect of, "We thank our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ..." something like that. But their first CD, "It's About Time" is no longer in print, and the copies that are out there are going for $200 on ebay.

I also read something about Nick from "Clubhouse" magazine (online), where they did an interview with him when he was about 12, and he talks about starting a kids' drama group at his church. At that tme, he was doing a lot of work on Broadway and he tells about that, and how God led him to try out for "Les Miserables".

The only reason I know all of the above is b/c I did some research when my dau became so "ga-ga" over them, in the last few months. They seemed pretty wholesome, so I wanted to find out what their background was like, and I'm pleased with what I found, but I do worry about them working so much and not having a life that is normal for kids their ages. I also wnder about how much control Disney has over them, if they are doing so much b/c they have a contract and Disney dictates to them how much and where and when they will work. I'm sure they are making a boatload of money for Disney, so Disney is going to get every little bit out of them that they can. Oh, another thing. If you go to the Disney boards, look at a thread called, "Ever Know anybody that was famous?" There is a post from a woman who says she use to go to church with the Jonas brothers, their dad was the pastor, etc. It's interesting.

FYI: I just heard that the JB will be on Oprah tommorrow, 4/24, if anyone's interested. I'm sure it'll be on at my house. We don't usually watch Oprah, but it will be on shortly after my dau gets home from school, so I'm sure she'll turn it on. It will be interesting to see if they say anything about their faith to Oprah. Don't know oif they're the whole show, or if she will have other guests on as well. Usually she just has one guest or topic, I think. But I haven't watched her show in a long time, so I don't really know anymore.

I like the line from Hold On which goes, "There's more to life than just to live" Hmmm, that would make a good signature line for me on CW. Maybe I'll use it!

Anybody else wach Oprah yesterday? It was good. The parents were on and did most of the talking. They seem like a very nice family. The boys looked tired tho. Their eyes just looked glazed over, like someone who has been running way too much for way too long. I feel so sorry for them. Their life is not their own. Wonder if they ever get a day off.

I wonder if Disney actually seeks out Christians, b/c they will fit the "sqeaky clean" image Disney has, or is it that Christians seek out Disney, b/c they can be rasonably sure they won't have to compromise their values, like they might with other companies? Disney has always been into fresh young talent, going back to the original Mouseketeers, in the '50's, one of whom was Annette Funicello, a Christian also.

It was interesting to read an online article from Details mag, I think it was March 2008, which gave the history of the JB. How they first signed with columbia, and then the guy who signed them was fired, and they were outthe door also, then Disney picked them up. It discusses their faith, and their purity rings. There is an online discussion of "What do you think of the JB's purity rings?" Most of the discussion was positve, as in "they are great role models" etc, but there was at least one poster who thot they wouldn't be able to keep the promise, esp since they have thousands of screaming girls going after them, etc. It was an interesting article.

Just because they say they are "Christians" does not mean a whole lot. I mean, look at this incident w/Miley a few weeks ago about "flashing a body part". Is that a Christian witness or not?

Or another stunt which Vanessa Anne showed her nude pictures over the net. If I had a christian teen (I don't have children but I do teach 4th graders and yes, they are fans of the above-mentioned musicians) I would explain to her especially that these people fail and yes, they need our prayers. Those who you call "role models" do fail because they are human.

That is why we need to be careful not to put those who work for Disney on a pedstal because they sin, they fail and hopefully they are accoutable to a pastor and not because they say they are a "Christian."

The difference with what Miley and Britney and the gang was that she was honest to admit that she was embarrassed, regretted her actions and apologized. Geesh...in today's world...even with the Christian community...admitting that you're wrong is a struggle. So I say...good for her acknowledge her wrong doing.

Her PARENTS were present at the photo shoot. The photo was taken with a digital camera. They had every opportunity to halt the shoot. Even Disney was outraged at the photos.

Yes, Miley takes some blame for this, but she is only 15. Billy Ray and his wife are most to blame. The sound of "KA-Ching" must have been more important than their daughter's reputation.

Billy Ray and his wife blew it on this one. Instead of being responsible Christian parents, they let things like this go on. They are not the only ones, because there are many who say they are Christian parents, but they let their children run the show and anything goes and vice versa.

I hope and pray they learn from this experience.

Amen!!! I just posted that on my "Miley" thread in the music section.

@momo...I love "Hold On".

Disney also plays Jump5 and Everlife who are Christians.

I saw the picture, and while it isn't exactly "porn", it is highly suggestive and completely innapropriate for a 15 yr old. The photographer and her parents should be the ones to answer for that. I'm glad Miley apologized, but really, she's a minor, and not the one responsible, legally speaking. But her apology shows that she's truly sorry for what she allowed to happen, and has probably learned from the experience, and will be more vigilant in the future, so as not to compromise her values. I hope her parents learned as much also. Have they apologized? Didn't hear anything.

As far as the thing about "putting them up on pedestals" just b/c they are Christians, I think it's a good idea not to do that, remembering that we are all sinful and can fail at our calling to be Christians, but all is not lost. We all can be lifted up to do what's right, again and again, and so can Christian stars. We need to keep that in mind. But I'm glad there are Christian musicians and actors out there, doing secular music and such, and that not all the Christian entertainers are secluded in the strictly "Christian" venues, (CCM, for instance).

Yes, and as Christians we need to not just pray for them, that is important, but to speak out and write to Disney and to Vanity Fair about your concerns because there are parents who may have impessionable teenagers who think that "If Miley can do it, it can give me a licence to sin too."

I'm suprized that many in the faith-based community are not speaking out about this and not being in the christian talk show circut because people are afraid to offend some.

It should be an outrage because this type of thing (and some are talking about explotation and kiddy porn too) leads up to something having to do with the pornagraphy industry, if this keeps up. They (the porn industry) already each time something comes up like this, has impersonate stars like this.

I agree wholeheartedly!!! If we make "idols" of anyone, we break God's commandments. He is the ONLY one worthy of WORSHIP and is the only One who will not let us down. We are called to uplift one another and make sure that Jesus is the center of all we do.

My daughter is very excited aout the fact that they announced yesterday that "Camp Rock" (new Jo-Bro TV movie) will be shown on regular TV, on ABC. We don't have cable, so she was bummed about missing it. I was goig to ask someone with cable to tape it for her and then surprize her, but now I don't have to do that. It will be on the same day, June 20, as it is on the cable channels.
