My faith has grown as i have grown in him but also, I feel him and see him do things in my life daily. He,s so beautiful and wonderful. Is it the things he has done for you that give you faith? He's made himself so real to me, I could never not beleive. I also think the holy spirit living in me makes God so real. I cant believe everyone cant feel him and know hes real. Sad. Tell me why you have faith. Has God revield himself to you in someway?

I have faith because God gave it to me.

(Eph 2:8) For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

I have faith because I read, listen to, and meditate on His Word;

(Rom 10:17) So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

And I build up that faith by praying in the Spirit;

(Jud 1:20) But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,

Thanks
RC

Faith is established by God in His revelation to man. He reveals Himself and we cannot but help see and believe. However, faith need not neccessarily be established simply because God is good to us. Let it simply be because of who He is, our Father.

I remember reading recently about the preacher John Wesley coming across a poor Christian who that day had only a cup of warm water and a crust of bread to eat and yet was over joyed in his faith in Christ. Needless to say, such faith, shook his own superficial faith. Considering the deaths of so many faithful saints, we could also wonder how they could worship God, seeing what they suffered for their faith and the cruel deaths they were subject to.

In any case, our faith and love for God cannot rest on His goodness to us least we are acussed of being fair weather friends.

Job 1:9 "Does Job fear God for nothing?" Satan replied. 10 "Have you not put a hedge around him and his household and everything he has? You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land. 11 But stretch out your hand and strike everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your face." 12 The Lord said to Satan, "Very well, then, everything he has is in your hands, but on the man himself do not lay a finger." Then Satan went out from the presence of the Lord.

Anyone who boasts of their faith is a target.

Luke 22:21-31 "Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift you as wheat. 32 But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers." 33 But he replied, "Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death." 34 Jesus answered, "I tell you, Peter, before the rooster crows today, you will deny three times that you know me."

We do not have a prosperity gospel, we have one of faith, love and truth. Having said that, yes I am ashamed at His goodness to such an unworthy man as me, but then again, He does pour out His blessings even on unbelievers to preserve them unto judgment. You could then suggest, one mans blessing, could be anothers curse.

I have faith because I know what it is like not to have faith.

You want specific reasons for why I came to faith. I have too many to list here, but I do have one I can share.

First so you know, I have always for as far back as I can remember, believed in God, and I believed in Jesus. Now that being said, I did not live a life of faith. About 11 years ago I said the prayer, and asked Jesus into my heart. I even started going to church. That didn't last long, and a few months later I asked Jesus to leave.(not with words, but with my actions)

Fast forward to last labor day, my girlfriend broke up with me. A week later I quit the job I had, which I hated. In August my doctor told me I should be dead. This statement I didn't really think about until these other 2 things happened.

I have a severe case of Obstructed Sleep Apnea. So bad, that my body does not take in enough oxygen to sustain my life. So after really thinking about that, and after these 2 other failures, I realized 2 things. One, that anything I tried to do on my own accord apart from Him will fail. Two, I am alive for a reason.

You see, I had known for almost 12 years that I had the apnea. I was told by my girlfriend at the time. I never knew how bad it was, or that it could kill you. So now I look back at those 12( maybe more)years, and see His hand on my life.

I believe He kept me alive, giving me enough time, to come to true faith. Now that I have, I am still here because He has work for me to do. I have a purpose now. But when He is ready to call me home, I am ready to go, and I thank Him for every day He gives me.

Ok, so maybe that was 3 reasons. But they all pointed me back to Him.

Faith is an intrinsic quality based on a ponderousness of evidence. Hebrews 11:1-"Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. 2 For by it the men of old received divine approval. 3 By faith we understand that the world was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was made out of things which do not appear." “[Jesus] proved He had a valid claim [to His Deity] but His own rejected His claim yet as many as receives His message; to them he claimed the right to become redeemed of God and appropriate His Name.“ John 1:11,12

My parents(and others)instilled in me that validity by example, early. Obedience to Faith was the only reasonable response. The alternative, to remain in myself, would have be foolishness. Even a pagan feels responsible to something.

Others have given the valid scriptural evidence for why we are given the gift of faith, so rather than repeat what they have written, I will tell you about personal experience.

I was reared in a cult. Our faith, rather than being in G-d, was in that church. However, G-d pursues those He has determined to have, no matter what their circumstances, and He pursued me. I am so grateful!

But toward the end of my being in the cult, I was so angry with G-d, not realizing that I was really angry with the church. I had lost faith in Him, not realizing I had just lost faith in the church. I got sick of their using me and blamed G-d, telling Him in rage one day that I was sick of being a servant and I would no longer serve anyone, including Him. Oddly, right after screaming those words at Him in rage, as I drove down the street, my radio began to play:

quote:

You may be an ambassador to England or France,
You may like to gamble, you might like to dance,
You may be the heavyweight champion of the world,
You may be a socialite with a long string of pearls

But you're gonna have to serve somebody, yes indeed
You're gonna have to serve somebody,
Well, it may be the devil or it may be the Lord
But you're gonna have to serve somebody.

You might be a rock 'n' roll addict prancing on the stage,
You might have drugs at your command, women in a cage,
You may be a business man or some high degree thief,
They may call you Doctor or they may call you Chief

But you're gonna have to serve somebody, yes indeed
You're gonna have to serve somebody,
Well, it may be the devil or it may be the Lord
But you're gonna have to serve somebody.

You may be a state trooper, you might be a young Turk,
You may be the head of some big TV network,
You may be rich or poor, you may be blind or lame,
You may be living in another country under another name

But you're gonna have to serve somebody, yes indeed
You're gonna have to serve somebody,
Well, it may be the devil or it may be the Lord
But you're gonna have to serve somebody.

You may be a construction worker working on a home,
You may be living in a mansion or you might live in a dome,
You might own guns and you might even own tanks,
You might be somebody's landlord, you might even own banks

But you're gonna have to serve somebody, yes indeed
You're gonna have to serve somebody,
Well, it may be the devil or it may be the Lord
But you're gonna have to serve somebody.

You may be a preacher with your spiritual pride,
You may be a city councilman taking bribes on the side,
You may be workin' in a barbershop, you may know how to cut hair,
You may be somebody's mistress, may be somebody's heir

But you're gonna have to serve somebody, yes indeed
You're gonna have to serve somebody,
Well, it may be the devil or it may be the Lord
But you're gonna have to serve somebody.

Might like to wear cotton, might like to wear silk,
Might like to drink whiskey, might like to drink milk,
You might like to eat caviar, you might like to eat bread,
You may be sleeping on the floor, sleeping in a king-sized bed

But you're gonna have to serve somebody, yes indeed
You're gonna have to serve somebody,
Well, it may be the devil or it may be the Lord
But you're gonna have to serve somebody.

You may call me Terry, you may call me Timmy,
You may call me Bobby, you may call me Zimmy,
You may call me R.J., you may call me Ray,
You may call me anything but no matter what you say

You're gonna have to serve somebody, yes indeed
You're gonna have to serve somebody.
Well, it may be the devil or it may be the Lord
But you're gonna have to serve somebody.

That song really hit me. I knew it was true. And I didn't like the alternative to serving G-d.

That's the short story.

I have faith because it is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen.

I have faith because of all the wonderful things that have occurred in my life are truly the work of our Heavenly Father. I don't thank the Lord nearly as much as I should but I am trying to better with that everyday. I fought a long hard battle involving an unfortunate incident with my son. I finally got him out of what I and everyone felt was a bad situation and now have custody of him. If it was not fo my faith and prayer I am not sure that I would have ever been able to do so. My faith has grown so much stronger because this decision was truly from the Lord our Heavenly Father. May God bless you and your loved ones.
