Back in the '80s and '90s, my least favorite Christian group was Glad. They did mostly a cappella stuff if I recall correctly. Nothing against a cappella, per se, but their music annoyed me. I don't doubt their good intentions, I just didn't like it. Freak, many of the folks you mentioned are of more recent vintage, so I can't comment on all of them, but I don't really care for much of what is called CCM these days. It's rather cookie-cutter to me. Good intentions, good lyrics but missing something. Of those older artists that you dislike, I happen to like Michael English, Twila Paris, Amy Grant, Sandy Patty, Steven Curtis Chapman, Micheal W. Smith etc. ...having come to faith in the 1980's, they were some of the first CCM artists I was exposed to. I don't like every last song by them, but I do like some of it to this day. My favorite "CCM' artists were people like Phil Keaggy, Larry Norman, Steve Camp, The 77's, Keith Green, Randy Stonehill and so on. I like Sara Groves a whole lot, but I get the nagging feeling that Natalie Grant is overrated. Same with Avalon. Generic and bland to me. As for secular, there are too many singers and groups that I dislike to list here! Blessings, The Optically Challenged Citrus Fruit (aka Blind Lemon)

Of those older artists that you dislike... No offense to anyone, I know it is a tough and extensive list. As for the likes of Amy Grant, MWS, I grew up listening to CCM I was about 12 when I was introduced to Petra, all was okay with the exception of the complete overexposure of these artist. They were good for the era but, much the same way alot of people feel about Christ Centered entertainment today there was a large looming lack of emotion with the most of it and it is really what made me walk away from it back in the 80's early 90's... I really can't stand, (nuthin personal ya'll) I can't stand Steven Curtis Chapman, every song the same, he does that same run up and down the scale for an "instrumental breaks" during the songs... UGH! I can also attribute some of the disinterest in those groups to the discovery of metal and the onslaught of "Grunge" and my angst as a youngster, (you know, the "I'm 18 and I hate my dad" kinda thing). It was, however, the birth of my third child who had serious medical contditions early on and then subsequent divorce that enabled me to rediscover Christ Centered entertainment. I will attribute that search to Caedmon's Call. The best CCM Band EVAH! But that lead to rediscovering the Christian metal which in that 8-10 years I was out of CCM had, IMO, improved enough for me to give up most secular metal and hard rock.

Interesting topic. Dislikes (all of these make me feel like this: ): Jars Of Clay, Avalon, Zoegirl, Carman, Greg Voltz, Rebecca St. James, Stacie Orico, Out Of Eden, and.... hmmm..... OK. That's all I can think of for now. If I think of more, I'll add it latter.

Most Gospel music. Southern or whichever. There is some of it that's okay, but the majority I don't care for. Love the message, just not the tunes. I love CCM and hymns, just never been able to get into Gospel. Secular (there are more, only these two come to mind first): Mariah Carey (Pop? R&B?). I don't understand when I hear how talented she is. Anyone can sing how she sounds, just take your voice to the highest you can get it and screech away. Vince Gill (Country). He cannot sing ballads, and that's what he mostly does. His voice gets way too whiny on them. Fast tempo ones he does not too bad, but can't do slow songs. And I agree with what's mentioned about people who sing all screamy, they are a big repellent.

ORIGINAL: sunshine4God Skillet,Pillar,This beautiful republic,Underoath.I dislike pretty much any group that is screamo. I am not a big fan of screamo either. I've tried to listen I usually like the guitar work and then the screamer (singer) starts and it's "C is for cookie and cookie is for me" sounding (although my my six year old call it throw-up singing ). The musicianship is there, even lyrically they are usually very good but vocally . My other aversion is to all the pop groups that dominate CCM since I don't listen to them I couldn't name a bunch but a few names I can drop are Sanctus Real, Jeremy Camp, Newsboys, Third Day, Leeland, Dizmas, & MWS. I do like some, Turn Off the Stars, Plumb, Future of Forestry, & Superchic[k] but they have to be unique enough to not sound like formulaic sounds like a hundred other bands music. Maybe that another reason I don't like screamo. If you weren't familiar with the groups and I played ten different songs from ten different groups; they'd all sound like they were the same group from the same album. BTW, I wouldn't consider Pillar and Skillet screamo unless you meant that you are not particularly fond of harder edged music.

I really don't like Amy Winehouse. I wish she'd go to rehab and find another hobby!
