I am sick of waiting and having to depend on people to do my editing. I want to get final cut pro and final draft (using one like it atm). Anyway this software goes only with macs, which is annoying because macs are so incompatible and I don't need the drama's, so I am in a dilemma. Few doco's I'd like to make and I have access to camera's and equipment, just the editing can be a problem when I have to depend on someone else. I heard you can get final cut (like it), in adobe, however it is a lot more complicated and I have a simple mind.

I've been using Final Cut for about 6 months and I've used Adobe Premiere a little bit. The little bit I've done in Premiere (grabbing different videos, chopping them up, sliding them around) was identical to how it would be done in Final Cut, except that Premiere ran faster and more smoothly than FC. My videos deal a lot with audio production, so I need to have the audio waveform drawing enabled, and this sends FC into a crawl - when it works at all. In that regard, Premiere is like butter. I don't know what color correction tools come with Premiere, but the ones in the FC Pro bundle are sketchy. The plugins right within Final Cut are pretty inadequate (especially if you need heavy correction), and while the Color program that comes bundled is much more powerful, it's really a poorly-written piece of software and the two don't communicate with each other as well as they should. -Dan.

Are you saying Adobe Premier is better? I'm going for the whole kit and kaboozle; also I wanted the final draft software, I know you can get that on regular computers as well? Your experience has been better with adobe, hey? Final Cut seems so simple. Is Premiere as simple? remembering that I am not tech minded.

Okay then, I'll check it out before I impulsively buy something which may be extravagant.

I've used Premiere in the past and now I'm using Premiere Elements both at home and at work. Works great and has more features than I actually need. The thing is, once you are able to edit audio/video in a non-linear fashion (on your computer), the software you use is negligible. They all work the same way and most have very similar user interfaces. It will come down to what works best with your current system and how much you want to spend. Windows Movie Maker will give you an idea of what it's like to edit. It's probably already on your computer.

As I've said, I don't have that much experience with video apps, but I've got experience with most of the pro audio apps out there and while there is a fair amount of overlap, there are some key differences that can really be deal-breakers when choosing a platform, depending on what exactly you need to do. Since you're familiar with Premiere - how well does it handle multiclips? (or whatever they call it - linking multiple synchronized camera angles together into one clip, from which you can then swap between angles) There are some things about Final Cut's handling of them that irk me. -Dan.

I would say there is more of a difference between stand-alone audio editors (say, Audacity v. Audition) than there are audio/video editors (like Premiere, Pinacle, etc.) As far as the multiclips...I'll have to look into that. I'm not familiar with that word, so I'm guessing it's called something else.

I decided I'll wait for the next one to come out and get that one. The one I want is around 3,100 with discount. I can afford to pay it off. I think it will pay for itself soon enough.

Giulia, I don't think you'll likely be disappointed with a Mac. I don't know of many people who have been.
