My daughter got this game for her Wii yesterday. Why don't they make things like this in Christian versions? I personally would pay more for it just to have it available. I have sheltered her for so long, now it is getting harder and harder.

I don't care for the music on it, but there isn't an alternative. That is what I am saying the need to make an alternative.

Just not understanding that reasoning...there are a lot of things that have no alternative that I wouldn't allow my kids to have. There is no Christian alternative for porn, but you wouldn't allow her to have that, would you? Why can't you just say it's not appropriate and take it back?

While Kat's example is extreme, her statement holds. You CAN just say no to things--you don't have to give in just because there isn't a churchified alternative. It's ok to say no to things, and if you think the music is a negative influence in that game, then that is one thing you should say no to. To be honest, my kids would not have been allowed to buy it, even with their own money, if I had not checked on the music first.

I understand what you are saying. We don't have that game yet, but I have read about it. They could have made the same game, only chosen better songs and it would have been just as fun. It is harder sheltering our kids as they get older.

She's 10 years old - in our house any major purchases like this would be discussed and researched together beforehand. It sounds like this didn't happen in your situation - I would strongly advise that you consider doing so next time, to avoid any future problems.
Isn't this around $140? IMO that's an awful lot of money for a 10yr old to be able to spend on whatever she likes. Especially when you've just spent out $300 on underwear for her ........

I think sheltering your kid to an extreme is only going to lead to them becoming more rebellious.
There isn't one single video game company that represents Christianity, or not to my knowledge. Holding out for an alternative is practically pointless being that there probably never will be an alternative.
I own Rock Band. It has a decent setlist compared to what it could have. One of the features it doesn't have is the capability of turning down the volume of the singing/background music as you're capable of doing in Guitar Hero.
And Rock Band is so ridiculously expensive. Considering the Wii version removed a lot of features that the original version that released on other consoles had, you end up feeling cheapened by your purchase.

I think you're worrying way too much and thinking way too much into it. Rock Band is a harmless game. It's a lot of fun and it doesn't promote violence or pornography like some of the games out there for the PS3 and XBOX. My entire family plays Rock Band and the Guitar Hero games. We have taken Rock Band and the Guitar Hero games to church to play with the kids when we have "get togethers". The kids love those games. FWIW, my father-in-law is a minister and my sister-in-law is a deacon, and we all play and enjoy these games together.

And I still say, so what? I mean, we took those games to church. Lyrics and all. It really isn't a huge deal in the light of things, honestly. You can teach your child Christian ethics and such and still allow for some outside influence in moderation, it's not going to hurt or hinder your child. In fact, I honestly believe that my mother's subjecting to "questionable" things is what has led me to honestly not care about them. I never "rebelled" because those things were never completely off-limits to me. Instead, I was able to talk openly and honestly with her and she would discuss with me what was right and wrong, and leave it up to me to make the decision. She had faith in me. I honestly believe that too many people don't have faith in their kids anymore, and all of this coddling is what's leading to a huge rebellion by the highschool crowds.

LOL, no, I'm just a realist along with being a Christian. After we have fun, we discuss what was right and what was wrong about what we just played, and we weigh the pros and cons. This leads to a more open relationship with the children, and I know I can better protect them if I can get them to talk to me instead of fearing me because I'm that over-protective crazy mom/youth director. I have one of the biggest turnouts for children in the area. The parents all think it's great that I instill reality along with Christianity into their minds. I know that being overprotective is counterproductive. I believe it's sad that many in the Christian community has not caught up with this figure yet.

Yes, but they can be taught what is right and what is wrong about them and make that decision.
*shrugs* I know being a realist isn't always compatible with Christianity. One day I'll learn that I'm a "different" mom and that my opinion and the way I raise my children isn't completely "God-like", I guess, because I trust my children? That's fine if that's the case. I rather enjoy my 31-member pre-teen group and our Rock Band days. It's quite hilarious to "rock out" and then discuss lyrics and such in a manner that teaches the child between right and wrong. Sheltering a kid from it isn't going to help them, especially when they reach the real world. Ah, well, guess there isn't much more to say because you insist that kids can't be trusted and you think your children will only be guided by you and the church in this lifetime. You'll see eventually.
