Please do not debate the wrongs or rights of it here I just need it to remain on topic, please and thank you! I am finishing up my second pack of combination pills and since switching from the mini pill to these I can already tell a difference in me. Before I got pregnant my side effect from bcp was I was depressed and down all the time pretty much. I had no ill effect from the mini pill so that was nice, but now I am having major mood swings, short tempered, and have no patience whatsoever. So after all that my question is could it be the brand of pill I am taking? If I possibly switched to a different brand would it make a difference or probably not? Hubby and I are in the midst of discussing whether or not its worth going to the doctor about. He has given me the option to do what I feel I need to because he has noticed the change and how its been effecting us. He said I can go to the doctor/try a different pill or go off all together and we will just let what happens happens. We were not planning on trying till July/August so it would be sooner than either of us would like if it happened, but by no means would we be upset. It is just a big decision that we are trying to make.

It makes a big differene, IME, Chelle. I am AWFUL on everything except the Nuva Ring and suprsingly it has higher hormone levels then any other pill I've been on... My OB's have speculated that it's because it isn't processed through the liver *shrug* I don't know, but it does make a difference. ETA- On the other hand it might not be a bad idea to give your body a couple months to figure itself out, especially if you haven't ovulated yet. Didn't it take 8 months of ttc to get Hunter? I don't know, it's such a quandry, we have the same one.

Don't you have to insert the Nuva Ring? I don't know that I could do that, I don't even do tampons. I just started my second cycle since weaning Hunter so I am pretty sure I have ovulated though at the moment I am not actively watching for the signs. Yes, it took about 8-10 months of TTC with Hunter, but we had a lot going on in those months so we were not always good at the timing which didn't help. Another reason (I know this shouldn't be a factor, but it is) I am scared to go off completely and possibly get pregnant is because my sister just lost a baby and is having a really difficult time with it. I know there will come a point when I can not let that stop me from living, but it just happened so I just wouldn't want to get pregnant right now. Ughh! Its such a hard decision to make for us at least.

Yeah, you would have to insert it... I really don't think it's such a big deal since it's only once a month but if having things internally bothers you then it wouldn't be such a good option. I would say to try and change pills. If nothing else you could just use condoms/spermicide until July, it's not that far away.

True, I am just being lazy when it comes to that I guess. We have never used condoms, ever or spermicide so it just sounds like a hassle. But, if that is what we have to do so that I am normal again then we will.

I figured I'd jump in here with a comment, too ... I was on the mini-pill prior to becoming pregnant with dd (now age 7) ... I had really weird periods (came every 2 weeks) so I was put on the mini-pill in an attempt to regulate them. I became pregnant while on the pill, as the mini doesn't do as well as the 'full' pill in preventing pregnancy. Whoops ... just noticed you switched AWAY from the mini. Just be aware that if you go back to the mini, your chances of getting pregnant are higher than if you stayed on a combo. May I ask what particular brand you are on? The only combo pill which didn't cause mega problems with my system was Tricyclen. But most of the combo pills caused migraines, which is why I was switched over to the mini.

OrthoTricyclen Lo did good for me. Out of all the BCs I've tried (and, I've been on many kinds) it seemed to have the least side affects. I will warn you that if you miss three pills in a row in the middle of the pack, you'll just might get pregnant. I did twice. The only two times I missed three pills in a row in my life, and I got my two sweet babies out of it. Have you ever tried depo? It'll keep you pregnancy free for three months which is when you were thinking of trying again.

Is Depo the shot? If so, I won't even consider it. I have heard bad things about it so its not an option. quote:

Chelle, I don't think the generic would have anything to do with it. I tried at least 4 brands of birth control pills before I found one that worked for me. The first one made my moods awful, the second made me break out really bad, the third I gained a ton of weight, and finally the last one actually controlled my moods and had the least amount of side effects. So it probably wouldn't hurt to try another brand. Usually any ill side effects show up pretty quickly. I agree about the three month shot, with all the effects I've had with bcp, I wouldn't want to have bad side effects and have to wait the three months until it wears off! At least with the pills you can just stop taking them!

The generic actually can have something to do with it, they aren't always formulated exactly the same way. Cyclessa was AWFUL for me, just horrid. Like Yolanda I've probably tried 5-6 different kinds before we figured out what worked. I liked the Patch(Ortho Evra) alot as well but my OB doesn't prescribe it because of some of the side effects. I wouldn't/won't do the Depo shot either, I don't want to risk messing with my fertility like that.

Chelle- If you're most comfortable with some sort of a pill, I would definitely try other brands. Our bodies are amazingly different in how we handle and process medications. So the tinest difference in medication may make a huge difference in how you react to it. I was on the Nuva Ring and loved it...had no side effects, but had to stop using it for another reason. Then I went on the patch, which also was fine, but I stopped using that after all the blood clot stuff came out. Definitely do not use the patch! We're treating someone right now who has blood clots in her lungs from being on the patch. As for the Nuva Ring, if inserting it is the only problem, maybe you could have dh do that for you? It only needs to be put in once a month. But if it's the idea of having it in you, then yeah, that wouldn't work.

Chelle, We were in the same situation as you were a few months ago. I was on Depo but I had problems with it, then on the pill but had problems with it, so Dh told me to go off BC completely. My response was "but we're not planning on trying until the end of the year." His reply "we'll be careful." I know, it seems silly. But we take extra precautions around the time I am ovulating. We're not temping or charting or anything, just being careful. If it happens, it does and we won't be upset. I knew if we kept switching methods, I would just get frustrated since my body doesn't seem to like bc, and I couldn't keep going through all of that.

Would generic have anything to do with it? by law, a generic is allowed to have 15% more OR less active ingredients. All generics are not equal, and they are definitely not all equal to the original. I had horrid horrid horrid reactions to the generic of my pills when I was on them. I had to go with "name brand only" prescriptions, and then of course the insurance wasn't happy with that.
