I'm getting married in 2 days. Huuby to be and I are both 47. We would love to be able to have a baby (adoption is always an options for us). Just wondering if there are any "older" ladies out there who have had or are having their 1st child. Thanks in advance for your responses.

Hi TwinCity. It's so encouraging to hear about "older" couples having children and enjoying parenthood. It just amazes me when I talk to unsaved friends about it - their response is - well if you find out something is wrong with the baby you can always aboort. That is NOT an option for us. Don't know if we have it in his to deal with a special needs child but then again God knows what we can and can't do - which is essentionaly nothing without Him.

My parents had my sister (their youngest) when they were 40. She is going to be 26 next month. My mom's doctor was a weird man and he was all freaky about her being 40 and pregnant. Scared-freaky. My mom had had 7 babies prior to my youngest sister (yes, SEVEN) so during the labor/delivery when her doctor was freaking out my mom calmly looked at him and said "You don't have to be here if you don't want to. I can do this on my own." He stayed, but he shut up.
My sister is perfectly normal, happy, healthy and very, very beautiful. She got married last summer and all 7 of us siblings were in her wedding. It was amazing. SHE is amazing, and when I look at some of my peers' parents (who are in their 60's like my parents) my parents seem so young. She really did keep them young.
Don't be afraid of what the world tells you. If the Lord puts a baby in your life, you know He didn't goof up putting it there.
I also thought, when pregnant, that if the Lord didn't want women in their 40's to have babies then He would surely take away their fertility during those years -- which He doesn't -- so there you have it. Clearly the Lord is okay with 40-somethings having babies.
Look at that sweet boy in my avatar. You think he gives a care his mom is 42? He is such a little snuggler and he lights up whenever he sees me. LIGHTS UP. I tell you, that shaves about 15 years off me each and every day....he is beautiful and without question he is a gift from God (as are all babies, no matter mama's age, but you get my drift...)

An old friend of mine had her first child at 45 and her second child at 47. That was almost 25 years ago, and things are so much better now than then.

I am 36, will be 37 next month. My husband I have not even start trying yet. We were supposed to start trying in Oct, but I am nervous because of my job situation. But I think no matter what I will try in April.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU THANK YOU, DONNA!!!!!!!!!!!! Having a disabled sister, and having had people flat out say to our faces, "it's all because my mom was 38 when she had her," that really hurt. And I knew that wasn't even true because we know women who were 39, 40, 41, 42, 43, and 45 and had healthy babies, and we've known women in their early twenties who had disabled babies. And one of the people that said that went and had a baby at 38 herself (she was married at 32, and had her babies at 34, 36, and 38, all healthy and normal) It really hurts to have people  flame you for something that already hurts.
THIS little girl's parents had her very young.

MOST disabled children (particularly Down's syndrome children) are born to women in the 20 to 25 year old age group.
The risk MAY be higher for older women...but there are two ways of looking at the stats.
IF at 45, you have a 1 in 240 chance of having a Down's syndrome baby....you also have a 239 in 240 chance of NOT having one....
