Back in the 1980's, I followed the following artists because of their belief in God:

Midge Ure
Donna Summer
The Call
Late 80's & 90's:

The Fray
Matt Kearney

U2 is one of my favorites. "War', "Achtung Baby", "The Joshua Tree" and "The Unforgettable Fire" are my favorite albums by them, in that order. Also anxiously hoping for an expanded version of the live "Under a Blood Red Sky".
I have The Alarm's "Eye of the Hurricane". Good stuff.
I remember The Call. They were good but not a favorite. Had the tape with "I Still Believe" on it.
Donna Summer is a childhood memory. I enjoyed her hits like "Hot Stuff" and "MaCarthur Park".
I like PM Dawn. I had a greatest hits by them but it never "gained traction" in my collection. Maybe I'll do some research into getting the CD with "Looking Through Patient Eyes" (I love that song). I think they're one where the whole album works together.
I had Lifehouse's debut CD for awhile. The first two songs and the last one are great. The others, not so much. They're good but really not my style.
I've heard of the others but don't have much experience with them.
I'm surprised Mr. Mister isn't on the list.

I do know that CCM Mag. used to talk about him a lot. I do not know what he believes at all though.
Oh, I just thought of another one from the 1980's: Bruce Cockburn.
And another one from the 90's: The Innocence Mission.

IMHO I think they would qualify as much as some of the others you mentioned.

True, I guess I would put them into the spiritually minded catagory. BTW, I have noticed that a lot of music channels are starting to play Kyrie again. It is a welcome return!

Gotta love Lauryn. Been a fan since Sister Act 2!!!! Add to the pot, Philip Bailey of Earth, Wind, and Fire and Deniece Williams, both of whom did Gospel albums in the late '80s/early '90's. Bob Dylan, Rev. Al Green, B.J. Thomas, also fit the bill.

U2's October is a very spiritual album, look at the song "Gloria"...
but actually, U2's "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb" is quite spiritual as well (All Because of You, Yahweh, Sometimes you can't make it on your own)...
Lately, I am finding Coldplay to be somewhat spiritual (still questioning it)...
if I may ever know the meaning to the song "Viva La Vida" I will know...I happen to believe the song's meaning is about Christ right before and after the Crucifixion...
i dunno, if you do, please clarify...

yes....MR Mister is (was) a christian band & Richard Page from Mr Mister has said they were (are) but they kept it very low key. Mr Mister released 4 albums::: "I Wear The Face,,Welcome To The Real World,,Go On,,Pull"..& all their albums are filled with Christian themed lyrics/images etc...Mr Mister even won a grammy back in 1987 for best "Gospel Performance" for their song, "Healing Waters" (off the Go On LP) beating out such CCM artists like Steven Curtis Chapman etc...
if you get the very good book on CCM music called...."The Encyclopedia To CCM Music",theres a large write-up & reviews of Mr Mister's LPS along with other (secular) artists who are christian like.....Simple Minds,Midnight Oil,U2,Lou Gramm (from Foreigner),Elvis,Ambrosia....

yes....KAJA (Kajagoogoo) are a christian band too !!!!! Kaja's most explicit christian LP was..... KAJA "Extra Play" for the U.S. ( AKA...Kajagoogoo "Islands" for the rest of the world) the entire LP was filled with very christian songs like ::: "The Lion's Mouth,,The Power To Forgive,,Big Apple,,Islands,,etc......)
Kaja's follow up LP called... "Crazy People's Right To Speak" was also filled with christian songs like..."Rivers"... all of Kajagoogoo LP's are available on CD with bonus cuts...
Kajagoogoo have re-formed with all original members (including Limahl) and are working on a new LP...

Lou Gramm was a christian before joining Foreigner in the early 70's,but Lou re-dedicated his life to Christ during the sessions of "I Wanna Know What Love Is" (in my opinion 1 of the best christian songs ever,in fact i heard it on my local christian station this morning) & Lou has been quoted saying that in the recording studio,he walks around with his bible & devotionals & the other guys in the band totally respect his walk/faith etc..& that the rest of the guys do not do drugs/drink etc....they're all family men grounded in their lives.
lets pray that Lou can be a testimony to the rest of the guys in Foreigner.
at last word,,,all the original members of Foriegner are back 2gether & on their new greatest hits package there is some new recordings,which is a way for an older band to present new material that will sell cause its on a greatest hits package,cause if the band released a new album with all new material theres no gaurentee that the new album would sell and if the label would even push/promote the new album.
why do you think bands like : Cheap Trick/Heart/Fleetwood Mac/Michael W smith/Degarmo & Key Band etc..... released greatest hits albums with new material ?????

Thanks for the info on Lou Gramm. I'm glad to see he's back at it (heard he had a brain tumor) and more importantly, that he is rededicated as a Christian.
Just for the record, it was never my intent to question Gramm's status as a Christian. The topic is about Christian and spiritual artists, I took it to mean the expression of the spiritual in their music. Aside from "I Want To Know What Love Is" (which I always took as a love song but for Lou Gramm's discussion of it) I haven't heard Foreigner discuss much of depth in their lyrics (aside from a few nicely worded love songs, "Juke Box Hero" and "Starrider") and they do gorify the party lifestyle in some of their lyrics. So I basically conflated Lou Gramm the person with Lou Gramm's role as the lead singer of Foreigner.
I make it a strict point to never question someone's salvation or claims that they are a Christian.

The why is to make money. I think it would be more honest and successful if they went on tour (which they probably still do). Maybe their label lends more support to a tour if there is new product attached to it. I imagine with the rise of iTunes that this strategy will be less successful in the future and less necessary. I don't like greatest hits albums anyway unless the artist was primarily a singles act (like many of the 60s Motown artists and some of the popsters). I really don't like the addition of new material to greatest hits packages. Maybe a better way to do it would be to release a live DVD with the new songs as a bonus CD. Include some "Behind the Music" style documentary stuff and I think you got a winner. I'm sure many fans will be interested in Lou Gramm's recovery from the brain tumor.
Note: obviously if the band has never gotten that type of greatest hits treatment (examples of "treatment" types: brief 1 disc bargain priced, full disc, 2 disc, box set etc.) or if the previous efforts have been substandard then go for it. Most of the artists mentioned in the quote have several greatest hits packages covering the different types, meaning another one would be redundant.

I'm new and was wondering if anyone knows an older song that has "well it must be the power of God following through me" as the main chorus. It is an older song that I had heard in the early 90's while watching the Power team guys. This song touched me while I was in my teens and I would be very thankful for any leads. Thanks to anyone who can help. God Bless!

Great choice. That debut CD is my favorite by them. The first six songs are fantastic. And "I Need You" is also wonderful, a great way to end it. To me, the debut CD has musical and lyrical depth the others didn't.
