I have noticed in my Christian life that so many people focus on the love of God, and only the love of God. Don't get me wrong His love is wonderful. But He is also powerful. So many people have painted God as a hippy or somthing. God is love dont get me wrong but He is also I AM THAT I AM, ALMIGHTY GOD. People live life with no fear of God anymore or respect of God. My father was telling me he was preaching in a church and a guy on the front row was chewing tabacco and spitting in a can..... Another guy told him he could beat that, that he was preaching at a church where a guy in the back of the church was smoking. We need to pray that the fear and respect of God is returned to believers. I am not saying that we shouldn't focus on His love, because only through his love am I saved, but we should also be amazed at his POWER. We should be just amazed at his power as his love.

Yes i agree with you Abounding, it seems anymore that too many want to focus only on the love aspect of God, to the exclusion to all others. He is also justice, righteousness, holiness and even wrath, and i submit that if He is anything more than love, it is holy. I hate when people refer to Him as "the man upstairs" or to Christ as "my big brother" or "best buddy" ( i know others will disagree ). People who view God with this sort of lax familiarty tend to take more liberty with the grace given them. I know christians with this whole "Jesus is my bro" attitude who feel its ok to watch any movie, listen to any music and involve themselves in any type of entertainment no matter how vile the content because as i've been told, " it's ok, it's not real, i'ts not like im going to act any of it out in real life, so relax dude, it's all about grace man". Then we act shocked when any research poll comes out showing that there isnt a dimes worth of difference between the Church and the world.

In my own life, when I have become casual in my relationship with the Lord, the only way the fear of the Lord comes back to me is through severe chastisement by my Heavenly Father...

I like what one commentator calls the fear of the Lord - "A deep reverence for God with a hatred of evil."

I can almost guarantee we would not find such a casual attitude towards God in places like India where believers are constantly under the threat of persecution or even death...

It will probably take something like that for the fear of the Lord to return to the American Church...

I once attended a church that believed if you read a certain book for 40 days (one chapter per day, sound familiar?) that you would have a deeper walk with God. In fact, this church suspended preaching the Word in order to go through a series that said nothing of the bondage of sin, my need to be rid of it and how to be rid of it.
