Is Alison Krauss a Christian? I was just wondering...if so, did she ever talk about matters of faith in interviews? Do we know anything about her personal life? I mean, I know there are gospel numbers scattered among her albums....but bluegrass traditionally includes gospel numbers, so just performing these tunes doesn't mean one is a believer. Any Alison fans out there that could help me out? Blessings! P.S. I own four Allison Krauss CD's thus far: "Now That I've Found You: A Collection", "So Long So Wrong", "Live" and "New Favorite"...and ,as I mentioned in another post, the Plant / Krauss collaboration.

Since you obviously enjoy her music enough to spend your money on it, what difference does it make?

I have no idea if she's a Christian or not. I do know that "Rasing Sand" was the best album I bought last year. Nothing else (not even Springsteen) came close.

Funny, funny! No, I'm not going to throw away all my Krauss CD's if she's not a believer! Nor does my question about her faith have anything to do with whether or not I like her music.... [quoteSince you obviously enjoy her music enough to spend your money on it, what difference does it make? ][/quote] But is it wrong to inquire about the beliefs of our favorite artists? No, it doesn't make a difference when it comes to my enjoyment of the music. If you have read any of my posts around this board, I enjoy good music written by believers and non-believers alike. While listening to one of her earlier discs, listening to a few of the gospel numbers...I just wondered if Ms. Krauss herself was a believer. Is she or is she not? Nothing wrong with that, in my book. Blessings.

Or maybe the knowledge that she shares his faith would make her music just that wee bit more enjoyable. It may prove useful in understanding her lyrics and where she is coming from. If I enjoy an artist I like to know about him / her / them. Christian or not (or religious affliation) is one of my main questions. Not to discard them if the answer is "wrong" but just so I "get" the artist.

ORIGINAL: babbred I'm a big fan of Alison Kraus, so I think it would be cool if she were a Christian. Ditto. But some of her music kind of makes me say "hmmmm....."---like the song "Let Me Touch You For Awhile." As a Christian, I don't think I could record a song like that. Not trying to be judgmental, but you know....

But when the lyrics are "I don't really know you, but I'd be willing to show you I know a way to make you smile. Let me touch you for a while"--that's the part that would make it uncomfortable for me to sing.

I just would consider it poetic license. We used to have a pastor who was real into the SG music scene and knew the Cox family and said she was. We did not like her when she sand SG. When she started singing real music then we liked her songs. My favorite has always been When You Say Nothing at All.

Yeah, I usually skip "Let Me Touch You For Awhile"....musically it's OK, but lyrically it seems out of character for her. I wonder what compelled her to record that song...what attracted her to it? Does she still perform it? An attempt to "sex things up" a bit to improve album sales? Maybe she regrets recording it? Who can say, except Alison herself? Or is it merely a lapse in judgment.....Ms. Krauss being 100% human, after all. I personally don't like it, but it's just one song....I cannot assume she is not a Christian because of its presence in her catalog....it's certainly the exception and not the rule. Blessings to all, and thanks for the input!

That song (Let Me Touch You) has just puzzled me, coming from her.

I looked on Wiki and did two searches on Google "Alison Krauss a Christian" (which pointed me here) and "Alison Krauss spiritual beliefs" and I got nothing. You probably did the same thing. I will say for what its worth that there was a similar thread on Miley Cyrus and it took only a few minutes to find and confirm (as well as I could) two strong declarations of faith from her. Perhaps people assume Ms. Krauss is a Christian because she does gospel songs so they don't bother to ask in interviews and somesuch. I would think that the subject would come up in an interview like how her songs' subject matter intercects with her life. Most Christian artists (and even those who aren't but might be) get asked about it. So until you find out I guess it is best to keep on doing what you are doing: judging if you'll listen to her music (and other music) on a song by song basis.

Either that, or she doesn't like to make a big deal about her beliefs. Maybe she doesn't want to get labeled as a "Christian singer." As someone who doesn't really enjoy CCM, I wouldn't blame her. Natasha Bedingfield stated in an interview that she's a Christian, but other than that I don't see her out there trumpeting it.

Hey, I've wondered the same thing and kicked around looking for interviews. Yes, she is...but it's more a part of the whole rather than the main thing in her music. Also, is it me, or has she changed her approach to her wardrobe the past few years? She used to never wear anything sexy but, well, my eyes linger longer on the last few publicity shots I've seen. Ahem.

Yep, I will continue listening to her on a song by song basis, regardless of whether or not I ever find out what she believes. And yes, she does look much sexier nowadays than in the beginning. Not improper or immodest, just a bit sexier and more feminine....she's "easy on the eyes", in so many words....is that done to sell more albums? I wonder. Lastly, I actually like Natasha Bedingfield. I bought her first album for my daughter, and I listen to it more than she does! It's well-crafted pop with decent lyrics...I have also heard that she is a Christian...I read somewhere that she was on a Hillsong UK praise and worship album (not that recording such an album makes one a Christian, but...) ...anyway, my facts are sketchy at best, but that's what I heard. Perhaps someone should start a Natasha Bedingfield thread. Her second U.S. release, "Pocketful Of Sunshine", comes out today. Alison Krauss is a beautiful lady with a beautiful voice who has made some enjoyable and memorable music...I guess that's all I can say at this point! Blessings to all!

....regarding Alison doing gospel songs, isn't it just part of country / bluegrass tradition to do gospel, regardless of whether or not the artist is a believer? Blessings again, and thanks for all the responses!

Blessings again, and thanks for all the responses! I think some artists do gospel just because it is part of their musical tradition. Elvis Presley recorded gospel songs and I wouldn't consider him a Christian artist. Not even in his pre-jumpsuit, movie star days. Blessings back at ya Lemon!
