I have homeschooled my son and daughter for 10 and 8 years respectively. When my son was graduating from 5th grade, we were apart of a homeschool group and though my children did not like the group at all, my son was able to have a graduation that was memorable. Since they did not want to return, we didn't go back to that group. The group soured them on the experience of homeschool groups for the following year, so we scheduled play dates instead (which was what we were accustomed to doing all along.) The problem is that now my daughter will graduate this year, from 5th into 6th, and we do not belong to a group. I am concerned that her graduation experience won't be as memorable as my son's. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I could do to make her graduation memorable?

An opportunity to create a new family tradition! Have a family dinner, invite important people to your children's lives-grandparents, relatives, friends, or other homeschool families. Make it special at home. Or connect with another family for a "graduation" celebration for all the kids.

What great ideas! Thank you so very much. My husband is a prinicipal at one of the local middle schools in our town, and though he was against the idea of homeschooling, he has changed his mind because he has seen (and is able to compare) other elementary and middle school children's quality of education with the quality of his own children. This victory definitely belongs to Abba! Some of our family members on the other hand, have not progressed as much as he has unfortunately. I love the idea of a new family tradition and dinner...that definitely has possibilities. Hopefully those family members with issues regarding homeschooling will hold their tongues until after the dinner event is done. Thanks again for your advice.
