I am on a message board with a group of individuals whose beliefs I am having trouble identifying with any organized religion. Maybe you can help me. They believe in annihilation and Oneness. Not Catholic but believe in a purgatory where non-believers can be instructed in the knowledge of God and receive a second chance. One uses the book of Enoch

There is no major denomination that has this combination. In fact, I doubt they are even Christian, since every item you mention is a doctrine that has been declared a heresy.

They could be Jehovah's Witnesses, who believe in annihilation and no Trinity.

Which would mean they are most likely not born-again believers.

Jordan,

Some groups are what we would call "eclectic." They will pick and choose doctrines that they like, even if some beliefs logically contradict one another. In such a case, it might be impossible to label them--assuming they would accept any such label.

It's kind of like trying to hit a moving target. Once you think you have them pegged, they move again on you. It reminds me of the Heisenberg uncertainty principle, if you've ever had chemistry.

It is a strange combination - I doubt they are JW's - because they do not believe in Oneness (the idea that the Father is the Son who is the Holy Spirit) nor do they believe in any form of purgatory. I think GrahamCracker may be right.

I also do not think they could be Christian Taoist - That is also contrary to Oneness, since it (at most) ascribes Jesus as being closer than any other person to the God-ideal. Oneness believes that Jesus was a literal manifestation of God.
