One of the greatist things in the world to a child is a hug from Mom or Dad. It gives them a feeling of security. Some people think that if you hug your child it will turn them into a sissy, especially if their boys. Some people think that kids have to face the real world and deal with things instead of getting a hug. I say that's a bunch of Hooey! The wife and I have always given hugs whenever the kids asked for them. Eventually they grow out of them. The kids will let you know when their are to big for hugs anymore. My 11 year old daughter comes up to me and gives me a hug when she sees me down about something. When you give your kids lots of hugs you will have less problems raising them. What is your opinion? Yes I have hugged my kids today! Many times over in fact! My favorite part of the day is when my 14 year old ds comes in for a hug before bed! My younger kiddos, 2 girls and a boy all get their fair share and more of hugs all the time! One of my most cherished memories of my eldest and youngest children involves hugging - two years ago when my eldest was 12 and the youngest was 5, she would meet him almost daily at the end of the driveway after he got off the school bus. She would run into his arms and he would drop to her level and hug on her! I told him the first time I saw it that if he was NEVER to deny his little sister a hug when she wanted or needed one for as long as he lived! He promised me that he wouldn't and I fully believe that he intends on keeping that promise! It is such a special bond he has with her! Hugs are a way of life around here. Kids do need to learn to face consequences and learn, but there's nothing saying that hugs can't be a part of that! At least as far as I'm concerned! Anyway, Blessings, Garsy

I hug my kids several times a day, and my husband does, too. We don't plan to ever stop, LOL. Hubby and I still hug our parents. My brothers still hug my mom and dad all the time (they're in their late teens). eta: quote:

I specifically remember a time my dad told my brother and I to hug. We must've been 6 and 8 years old. We were both like "ugggggghh", and our dad told us "You two better hug now, because one day you'll want to hug each other and you'll wish you hugged more when you were growing up." I remember that so well. And boy are parents wise like that!!! Now my brother and I are 25 and 27, he's in the Navy 1,500 miles away and what I wouldn't give to see and hug him more often!!!

(And BTW, I just noticed your 'location' in your info ... are you meaning to tell me there really IS a bottom to a laundry basket?? You've actually seen it with your own eyes??? I've heard rumours it exists, but ours are always full) Oh it's there Kara, it's there - but I'm always BURIED beneath a mountain of the stuff too! At least right now for a couple months I'm not washing soccer uniforms twice a week! Those socks get STINKY! Oh and back on topic! I got a hug from my Papa today! The first one in a year and YEP is was ALL good! Even nearing 40 years old a girl needs a hug from her Papa once in a while! Blessings, Garsy

Not yet. One isn't home she spent the night elsewhere getting ready for a yard sale for a cheerleading fund raiser. The other two are still in bed. I will however. Do everyday. I didn't come from a huggy family. We never really shared much how we felt. For that reason it feels kind of strange or awkward the rare time my parents and I hug now. I never hug my brother and sister. I love them but that would be so far out of our normal bounds with each other. I wanted things to be way different with my own family, though. So I am always telling them I love them and hugging them throughout the day. Especially in the mornings when they leave for school and at night. I still kiss them goodbye in the morning and get a good night kiss at night.

My daughters hug on mom and dad and each other all the time. At night it is a routine to give hugs and kisses before bed. And when visiting family, hugs and kisses are before leaving. I think it is just a sign of respect too.
