My dad flies twice a week, and recently he sat next to a woman with a baby. The babe didn't make a peep the whole 4 hour flight, as she nursed him almost the whole time. My dad is very extroverted, and as long as she was comfortable talking to him and nursing, he was happy to hear her story.

She is in the middle of 12 siblings, and quite enjoyed being part of a large family (and no matter which way you shake it, 12 kids is a large family). All 12 kids (boys and girls) got a minimum of a 4 year college degree, and at least 3 were doctors. She herself was a nurse and the mother of 4, but her oldest 3 were with the husband, and she was hoping to have more.

She was flying to meet her siblings, so they could all take their parents on a 50th anniversary trip to Jamaica. The parents would be celebrating their anniversary not only with their 12 children, but also their fourty-four granchildren! So, here's to this lady's parents; it sounds as if they have a rich and bountiful harvest of family.

Sounds like they have been very blessed.

Whenever someone mentions the success of people (doctors, nurses, college degrees)..... I can't help to think and wonder how their soul is? Not that having success means your unsaved... but people tend to talk more about worldly success than what is important.

Say, that's a really good travel idea: mom & baby on a peaceful flight just them-2. Dad on another flight co-ordinating 3 older kids with a different set of needs and no distracting baby. That sounds a lot better than trying to juggle the baby & worry about the kids too, even if mom & dad are trying to help each other (and/or get in each other's way and split the focus of the older kids).

*sigh* I was wondering if the anti-college crowd would come out. Sometimes college and career is just what people talk about. My dad and this lady didn't know each other, so it's a nice neutral topic.

Why does talking about schooling and career make you think that they aren't saved? Just because they didn't specifically talk religion? (And I don't know that they didn't; I'm just relaying what my dad told me.) There's no reason this lady shouldn't be proud of her parents and siblings.

And it's pretty obvious that family is a top priority for them, so they can't be all bad. What a shame that a casual conversation about an interesting family makes you question the state of their souls.

From what my dad told me, most of the conversation was about life in a big family, and the upcoming anniversary celebration.

I'm not anti-college. Yes, people do have casual conversations, it is great that your dad met this person and they could share and talk.

I never said they weren't saved, nor did I say that because they didn't talk religion that it indicated that they weren't. I have just been thinking of unsaved family members in MY own family lately. I have also ran into plenty of people lately with unsaved children and I think to myself how I would feel if it was my kids and it would be really hard. I just think it would be a miracle and a huge one if this big family would be all saved. And, maybe they are. But, I was in no way indicating that they weren't because they are successful. I think it is great that they are successful.

Again, I'm not questioning their particular souls. I was just talking.

Sounds like a really neat family. Hope mine is that big and wonderful and has the money to go to Jamaica someday.

My dh is big on college education. Real big.

I thought of you Maggie, when my dad relayed this story to me. I was hoping you would enjoy hearing it.

I can just imagine you and Josiah gearing up for a big party on your 50th anniversary with your 12 kids, and 44 and counting grandkids.
