I've been single for a while, and recently found an amazing guy off eHarmony. In the past, I hadn't been living how God wanted me to... and it showed in my relationships (i.e., dating non-Christians, unpure relationships, etc.). This time I'm doing it right, and I'm really excited to be in a place where God can bless my relationship.

I was talking with him today and he suggested that we do a devotional together for a Bible study to help us build a strong foundation. Does anyone have a suggestion on a good devotional book to pick? He's in the military, so he's gone a lot... I need something we can both read in the morning and then discuss through out the day with each other. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks All!!!!!

I realize that the Bible is the best source, but I want a book that can guide us through building a strong relationship.

When you talk about building a foundation, the best foundation is to get in deeper with God, at the same time, on the same page. That's why a Scripture study is the best for that purpose.

If you get a book that uses Scripture quotes and also teaches you something about good and godly relationships, that's a 'teaching' experience that lets somebody give you insight and instruction. It can help with a lot of things, and it might be nice 'icing on the cake' but it will not build a foundation the way digging into a good Scripture study will.

Because a relationship is about interweaving lives... and studying the Word together actually does interweave your faith life. Reading about how to do it is not the same as actually doing it.

If you are unsure of your ability to read, understand, discuss and apply 'naked' Scripture, you might get a workbook or study guide (with answers, not just questions) on a particular book of the Bible, or buy matching study Bibles (with applications as well as information). Start with a gospel, then do Romans, then any other NT book (other than Revelation) then Genesis and Ecclesiastes. That should take you a good six months if you do it daily. You could toss in some Psalms on weekends.

Agree that the best way to strengthen a relationship (earthly) is to strengthen your heavenly relationship. A good workbook for building your relationship with Christ is called "Experiencing God" by two authors. One is Black-something (Blackwell, Blackmon, something like that)

A book/workbook set for strengthening your relationship with your friend is "Saving your (Second) Marriage before it Starts" There one set of book/his-her workbooks is for people who have never been married, the other set is for people who have been married or in a "marriage-like" relationship before. these books were written by Les and Leslie Parrot.

Audrey_180...Experiencing God is an excellent lesson book as Creation talk has mentioned. You will be referred to the Bible with this lesson book. You will come away with a much clearer understanding of yourself and where you should be with God..
