I have been saved for a number of years now. I can't say that I've been a Christian for all those years, but I have recently turned turned my life over to God's control. I understand the principle behind tithing and giving, but something I don't understand is what happens with those people (such as myself) who are unemployed and have no money to give? I have been unemployed for over a year, and have not been able to give anything (as far as money goes) to God. I am active in my church and try to do whatever I can for people, but I am concerned about this issue of not being able to give. I am currently living with relatives who are paying my entire way thru life because I have been unsuccessful at trying to find employment. Could someone please shed some light on this for me?

The word tithe means 10th.

10% of nothing is nothing.

We give back to God a portion of what he has blessed us with through out tithes and offerings.

Because it appears that you have no income rather you have time you may want to give tithes and offerings to your church family in they way of service.

I agree completely.

P31 is right.

Giving to your church is done from your income. At this time, there is no income.

You can give of your time. Ask your pastor or his secretary how you can help. You may be able to do some needed chores for the church or a church member who is elderly or disabled.

Other possibilities for helping include volunteering at the local food bank, soup kitchen, homeless shelter or Salvation Army. If you need help in finding where they are in your community, you can call the United Way's volunteer office.

Have you tried applying for temporary work or work that your can do during the evening or weekends while you are looking for full-time work?

Peace,
Anne

All advice here is right on. Tithe is on your income. When I have been unemployed, and it has happened several times, we did not tithe, but if I got a little side work, we were THRILLED to put that 10% in the plate.

God is good, he sees us through the tough times.
