Someone does this every few years or so. It's dumb.

Amazing, he actually believes that poking himself 900 times makes him something. Strange where some people get their self worth from. What happens when someone else breaks his record, will he feel like nothing again?

Thank God I have Jesus who gives me my self worth.

Oh, as a side note, I agree with his mother.

Wether you think he is weird or not that is a remarkable achievment. Pain is a very interesting notion.

I have 20 piercings (all done at very lengthy intervals) and they each individually hurt like crazy. To endure 900 without passing out or having a seizure or vomiting etc is amazing.
Congratulations to him......now maybe he can find something more worth while to get his self respect from.

I could never understand why anyone would want to have holes poked in themselves (I'll make an exception for women who get one set of earlobe piercings). I've heard people say they think they (the piercings and associated ornamentation) are pretty. I know I'm old-fashioned, but it doesn't do anything for me. This guy has gone beyond being ridiculous!

Because piercings are a form of self expression and when done carefully and properly they look quite nice. I'm a female and I've had a total of 5 piercings:

*Ear Lobes: Pierced 3 times in the same spot, first two times the holes closed up.

*Left Helix (Ear Cartlidge): Pierced over Christmas break 2007 with a gun at the mall (BAD idea). Eventually took it out after a few days due to excessive pain.

*Right Nostril: Pierced about three or four weeks ago. The only time I had pain with this one the day of the piercing. Don't even feel it anymore. I love it!

In the fall I'm planning on going to the same tattoo shop and piercer that did my nostril and get an industrial (barbell) through the top of my left ear cartlidge. I've also thought about a tongue and eyebrow piercing.

I was baptized for the forgiveness of my sins and gave my life to Christ in 2006. So do my piercings make me any less of a Christian? Or perhaps they make me some sort of sideshow freak?

I also shop at Hot Topic and I like to wear black, and I like skulls.

Dave, I would like to know why you make the exception for females with one set of ear lobe piercings?

As for the man in the article, all I can say is OUCH.

Um I don't think that Dave was making any comment on the character of a person with piercings. I thought he was just saying that he knew some people find piercings attractive but he personally doesn't.

Dave I don't think the mans record attempt was really focussed on piercings as ornament as he certainly wouldn't have kept the bars in afterwards. It was a record that demonstrated how pain can be overcome. I also guess there was a shock value to it also.
I am a little confused about your coments in brackets...linking being straight and red blooded in opposition to being tattoed or pierced. Maybe I am misunderstanding you?

Dear everjoyful and SweetPea213,
I was just stating my personal opinion. I'm from the 50s generation. Things were very different then.

Girls, women, females didn't go around with holes punched in them except for one set, maybe two, in their earlobes. They (unless they wanted to be considered freaks) didn't get tattoos (at least any that showed). They did not want to appear cheap or trashy (unless they really were), and that was how tattooed and punctured females were considered.

Guys, men, boys didn't wear earrings or have any other piercings. They maybe had a tattoo or two, but that was usually only military guys or motorcycle club members. If a guy was to show up with an earring, he would be considered homosexual.

This was the culture I grew up in. I don't understand the attraction of the goth look, wearing all black, the skulls, the seeming fascination with death, the "peace symbol" (the inverted cross - a satanic symbol). In my opinion, these are not things a true Christian would want to be associated with. I make no excuses nor apologies for my opinions.

Do piercings or tattoos make one less of a Christian? No. Do they look pretty? In my opinion, no.

SweetPea213, before you get your tongue pierced, PLEASE talk with others who have had this done. I personally know of a couple of people who have had their tongues pierced and have experienced severe headaches and other problems.

Nor should you apologize dave. I agree with you here 100%. When the Lord converted me and gave me a new heart, i turned my back on the way of life i lead and gave up a lot, just as He asks us to. If someone were obsessed with piercings and tattoo's, skull's and all the other thing's of that nature and continued on in it even after "conversion", i could only conclude that all they have done is just added Jesus to their vocabulary and nothing else

Thanx for the vote of confidence and I heartily agree with your statement about just adding Jesus to their vocabulary. I hope and pray that is not the case here with SweetPea213 and that she will truly give her WHOLE heart to the Lord.

Hi, I'd like to concentrate on the doctrinal aspect of your post:

Salvation from sins is 'by grace, through faith...not of works' (Ephesians 2, 8 & 9), do look it up, it's very important.

No one will find it attractive when he's 75 years old and his skin grows slack and his piercings are dragging on the ground making sparks!

This also happens with tattoos...a pretty young girl tattooed on a 22 year old body will look like an old, wrinkled woman when that body has lived eight decades.

Think about it!

Why would someone inflict pain on themselves? Isn't this a health issue,as well? Multiple piercings could cause infections or deformities of the skin.
