My dd will be in 3rd grade. If we decide to homeschool, I have her 2nd grade math book that she did not even do half of. I also have a set of language arts workbooks, games, and books that I got from scholastic. Money is tight and I am thinking that it is not necessary to buy much more. I figure I can get plenty of books at the library to teach science and history. I also have many friends who are teachers. Can anyone give me any advice?

My advice would be, first, to relax 
You could work with her 2nd grade math book. Or, an approach I prefer, is to use NO math books at this stage. Go back to the basics, with addition. Make sure she understands the concept (including place value) and can add numbers of any size. Work up to that, of course. Then do subtraction, making sure she understands how regrouping (borrowing) works (again, it's a place value thing..you may want to google ways to teach place value, people use toothpicks, base 10 blocks, all sorts of things). Then go to multiplication, and work up until she can multiply nice, long numbers (five digits). Then do long division, and work until she can divide larger numbers.
I would not recommend making her memorize the multiplication tables. Instead, go to www.donnayoung.org and print her off a multiplication chart and put it on or in the front of her binder or notebook, and encourage her to use it. Eventually she'll have the numbers memorized.
After she has addition, subtraction, multiplication and division down pat, truly understanding them, I like to use the Key To series of workbooks for Fractions, Decimals and Percents, in that order. The are inexpensive and very thorough, IMO.
For language arts, you can use what you have on hand, to supplement plenty of real-life reading, writing (letters, stories, keeping a journal, etc). I never liked spelling lists, so we used Simply Spelling and also the kids seem to want to know how to spell, so they ask, and I tell them, and they usually remember.
History--Lots of reading, of course. The library is your best friend. I would allow her to choose something she wants to learn about, then you can work together to find out everything you can about it.
If you have Netflix, you can get all sorts of DVDs related to history, social studies and nature/science.
Science at this age, on the cheap, would probably begin with keeping a nature journal (google that one--lots of info!) and doing a lot of exploring, question asking and finding the answers. Your library will have books of simple experiments and wonderful DK books (there is a series on building machines, boats, etc that she might enjoy).
Art I am sure you need no help with. Little girls generally love art for art's sake. You may want to check out a book on one artist at a time from the library and look at their works and talk about them.
PE around here is kept very simple. Daily activity plus any classes or teams they like to take or join. For us that means Jukido, Karate, and in the summer, swim lessons for one and swim team for the other. Also, bike riding, pickup games of flag football, etc.
Social Studies-at that age we covered this mainly through answering their questions. The library will also have plenty of materials.
I guess my advice boils down to--have fun!

Thank you so much!! I am A LOT less stressed now. The basics of math are the best thing to do. I always felt like she never mastered one in school before they moved on to the next concept. WOw! I feel so relieved. You are a Godsend :)

These are a few good sites that have great things that you could print off your computer and use. I use abcteach's state theme units to do state reports with my DD. We started with Maine and are working our way around the United States. There are other sites that you could probably find that could help you. And yes, the library is a great resource. They might also be able to help you find some used curriculum that would be useful. Hope this helps!!
