Renewed the subscription to Norton and it went into effect yesterday. As of yesterday it seems the 'puter can't communicate with the modem now. The broadband tech said it might be the firewall preventing this. We restarted the machine in safe mode to bypass Norton, but no luck.

Am running XP and using ATT broadband. The protection I subscribed to is just the basic service. Anyone else having this problem and any ideas on how to fix it? I turned off the firewall temporarily and still no go, Do I need to get rid of the Norton and what would I use for protecting the computer?

I'm going to call Symatic later and grill them.

Thanks for any help.

I would do a system restore. Pretty good trick being able to post like that and not being able to get on the internet and all that :).

I posted from work....

Uninstalled Norton last night and that didn't work, so called ATT again and now they think it is what I guessed all along, a bad modem.
