1 John 3:10 This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not a child of God; nor is anyone who does not love his brother. John 12:31, 14:30, & 16:11 reference the devil as "prince of the world". If we don't belong to God, we belong to the devil. So, before we are saved and have made Jesus our Lord and Savior, we belong to the world, the devil - therefore making us children of the devil. Is this a correct statement? I heard of someone saying something to the nature of, "I see myself as the prodigal son. I belonged, but I fell away. But I came back and have realized my sin." They didn't back it up with scripture and didn't agree with the statement that we were children of satan and God has adopted us into His family...does this sound familiar to anyone? Thank you! I just want to get input...let iron sharpen iron!!

It appears to me that Yershua(Jesus) used the term the "children of Ha Satan(the devil)" as a play on words to get the attention of those who consider themselves justified because they are children of Avraham. The term "children of Adonai" is peculiar to The Apistolic Writings primarily those of Yochanan(John). Prior to Yeshua everyone was considered Adonai's special creation and the Isrealites identified themselves as children of Avraham or the promise. However, no one would dare refer to themselves as children of Adonai. It is Yeshua that gave us the power or permission to refer to ourselves in that manner. I'm not sure it is useful to develope doctrine from these designations. I think their best used as designations when discussing other issues.

Hi JEGUINN, I'm new here, so hello! It is clear that satan has his children and they are the ones who do not have a saving faith in Jesus Christ. This verse says it all: Jhn 8:44 Ye are of [your] father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. I have heard many people say they have fallen away. Even many of the great Confessions of Faith suggest that many do, but that God will and does cause His children to persevere in the faith. He is the author and finisher of our faith. Once a child of God (when you belong to God), there is nothing that can keep us from His loving grip. Rom 8:38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Rom 8:39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. How is that verse for OSAS. Amen! Love, KB

It is clear that satan has his children and they are the ones who do not have a saving faith in Jesus Christ. What is actually clear from 1 John 3:4-10 is that children of God do not habitually continue to sin. These verses have nothing to do with eternal security and everything to do with the power of the Holy Spirit enabling us to live victoriously over sin. There are no sinning saints on their way to Heaven!

Most assuredly those verses you pointed out have nothing to do w/ ES. My response was more to fallen saints, who fall away temporarily and then return like the Prodigal. That's all. I could not agree more w/ this statement of yours: quote:
These verses have nothing to do with eternal security and everything to do with the power of the Holy Spirit enabling us to live victoriously over sin. There are no sinning saints on their way to Heaven! Good point!
