For those who are continuously living an immoral and unethical life, I am wondering who is responsible for changing their hearts. Does God change their hearts or is it an individual responsibility to willingly change his/her own lifestyle? Especially those people that are impatient, lazy, selfish, inconsiderate, and easily angered. I'm thinking if you are a Christian, your heart has to change at some point in your life. I don't think God would approve of someone who is living with bad characteristics. I'm curious to know who changes men/womens hearts, does God change them or do we change them ourselves?

For me I recognize that any goodness I have comes from God. He is who I want to please and know that the holy spirit convicts me when I am tempted to do or say something that is displeasing to Him. It's a matter of choosing to be obedient or not. God is who changed me, how I see and treat others, my outlook on life is different since I came to know Him. I can only hope that I am being a good witness in my actions and how I live my life, so that others see the Jesus in me.

Probably any change is more a recognition rather then responsibility. The risk is borne by inheritance, that is, we 'inherit' our propensity to sin from our father, Adam. Likewise, when we're born again we 'inherit' our new nature from the 'second Adam'.

I believe that God leads us to make choices and it is our own personal responsibility to make the right choices. The secular 'saw', "You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink" is a good analogy.

I agree with all of you. This is my opinion. I think God is the only one who can change individual hearts. However, I believe we each have a personal responsibility to follow through on the right choices and willingly make the necessary changes to our life.

That's what repentance is all about, admitting that what you are doing is a sin, and choosing to do differently. This is when you ask the Lord for His strength to help you.

The Holy Spirit is constantly working in our lives. All of the trials that we go through, regardless of if it's our fault about the trial or not, we are being conformed to the image of God's son. So I would say that we have the heart that changes, but we cannot truly have a change of heart without God.
