I think most people, especially in America, have a love of fine personal transport. Myself, I've never owned a new vehicle, although I've really liked some that I've had. Given a scenario where you had, say, $75,000 to blow on a vehicle, money you can't use for anything else, what would you buy? Also, please try to disregard the practicality of gas mileage, insurance rates and such, especially since we're veering into fantasy land for many of us, and not intending on writing a Consumer Reports article.

I'm sure mine would involve a big hoss diesel truck, with a big rumble, big knobby tires, and a modest lift kit for off-roading and muddy roads to hunting and fishing spots. However, there's something to be said for the fine precision in a really nice German sedan, fitting the other side of my personality.

How about you?

I always wanted one of THESE
I did have one of THESE I was restoring, until I ran out of time and money. It was a lot of fun, and very dangerous.

Yeah, both are very dangerous... that's why they are so much fun.
Still have the Firebird? My uncle has one like that, been tinkering with it for nearly 10 years. But what ever you do, don't sell it... until you call me first.

Wow...both good choices. I like the Mustang, but the Firebird would be too, too cool. The thing that kills me is that when I was coming of age in the early 80's, you could buy a lot of that old iron for a song from local guys of the prior generation that were aging and needing kid-friendly transport. Those cars have absolutely skyrocketed in value. We had neighbors with old Chargers, GTO's, and 'Cudas, but of course, even then I didn't have a lot of money for a hot-rod, nor could I afford the insurance bill. My first car was the family Dodge Monaco which my dad sold me for $500.

Nope, I sold it several years ago. I had it for about 20 years and was storing it in my parent's garage. They were bugging me about it being there so I was forced to sell it since I had no where here to store it. It had a 400 H.O. engine with Ram Air heads. I better stop now or I'll start missing it.

One of my friends had about five GTO's at one time or another. He even had a GTO Judge. Very cool!

Well, I could use that big hoss diesel truck Duramax with the Allison transmission. That would pull a big 5th wheel trailer that I don't have.

2008 Harley Davidson Night train! Black paint scheme with charcoal ghost flames.
Screamin eagle exhaust and intake system
Flat black drag bars, Lowered triple clamps and blacked out mirrors
LED Bullet turn signals and a hidden LED brake light
Foward controls
Inverted gloss black front forks
5 3/4" Bullet headlamp
Badlander seat

All for $22,000 off the showroom floor and then about $2500 for the aftermarket stuff (the paint job and other goodies)

Heres a link to the way it would be coming out of the showroom

I've been thinking lately that although new trucks have definite pluses, I'd like something a little more vintage, such as THIS

A '57 Dodge Power Wagon, just looks like a truck ought to look.

I don't get the appeal of fancy cars and trucks. I feel like a schmuck driving around in a reasonably nice vehicle when I know I don't take care of it.

But a boat... You can water ski in a boat. Ski boats are pretty decent for scuba diving, too.

Doesn't a "nicely equipped" one go beyond the "limit?"

If you check craigslist in your area, I bet you can find a used lifted diesel and a fifth wheel and a toy on the side for that much money.

btw, I'm blessed to have these.

It would be a Manitou (www.manitouboats.com) 24 ft osprey pro pontoon boat with the SHP option, a 200 hp motor, double bimini, luxury chairs up front. High end stereo. With the versa track boarding ladders on each side.

Then With the leftovers I'd buy a big truck to pull it with. Something diesel four door.

(Actually I cheated. I bought the boat two summers ago. It screams. I can do about 40 mph with a full load, 12 people, coolers etc. Turns like a runabout)
